Industrial strength, of course; and I do need to go to the room with wall-to-wall tiling every once in a while to actually sing those songs.

Nice to see ya'll living peacefully together. Wait, no it isn't! Why am i being so nice? You're doing this to me aren't you! No, it's that little brat Ben!
Ok, so my semi quote meant another Ben, but on the note of Ben, ya know, he doesn't like ya'll either, he just doesn't know how to tell the truth He wants the member base to slim down to good serious posters again too, and was also annoyed at the influx of members in December, it just confuses him that he feels that way because he thinks more=better. |

Not that I feel the need to explain or anything, but.... I've been a tolkien fan for 8 years. Let's see, that's 7 years before the movie came out... I don't find any of the male actors in the movie attractive... Although, I greatly admire Ian's acting, from Gods and Monsters... and the reason I came over here, is cos my old haunts got swamped by Legolas Lurver's. Meep.

Actually this board is not really a place for intellectual discussions of tolkien's works. That's not a bad thing at all, it's just a fact. They occur but that doesn't seem to be the point. It would be very hard to maintain a successful (i.e large) board and achieve that goal. The only place I've fins for such conversation is usenet, and I hate usenet, there's simply too much crap flying about. Here it is organized, streamlined, and dare I say it cozy-unless you really annoy the mods by being supra-ignorant. Wouldn't a better response be to convert the benighted "Legolas Rocks" fans into to true addicts who crave discussion about the theological implications of a scientific mythology, the impact of Tolkien's WWI experience on his work etc. Of course that scares away the unwashed masses.

Well perhaps you are right and I should not be posting here.
I don't enjoy the books them selves as much as I enjoy the story if you know what I mean. perhaps Tolken is to large and complex for my small brain to appreciate. However I found the people of this MB to be very nice and not overly rude, I especially was drawn to it for its lack of cussing and such which I found on many of the others that I stopped going to/never went to at all. Perhaps this is farewell, you have certainly given me some things to think about CBG and Tater, but who can tell? not me. And no I'm not mad at anyone or being mellow dramatic. (well maybe just a bit ) |

Cussing? Is that some strange US term for it? Why does nobody use the word "swear word", or "swearing" ...?

Yes "cuss" is used a lot here. It is derived from the word "curse" and is used in addition to "swear". Just thought I'd jump in and answer that.

Woo . . . disappear for a while and suddenly there's a few new pages added on each thread.
Well, in the US of A we have many terms for 'swearing', such as 'cursing', 'cussing', 'French' (Sometimes when people curse, they say, "Pardon my French." Odd, isn't it? I don't get it myself.) |
