How is Aragorn truly pronounced? I pronounce it "Air-a-gorn" and some pronounce it "Arr-a-gorn". Who's right?

'What are we going to do now then?' asked Pippin, undaunted by the wizard's bristling brows. "Knock on the door with your head, Peregrin Took,' said Gandalf. 'But if that does not shatter them, and I am allowed a little peace from foolish questions, I will seek for the opening words.' 'Fool of a Took!' he growled. 'This is a serious journey, not a hobbit walking-party. Throw yourself in next time, and then you will be no further nuisance. Now be quiet!' |

My best guess would be "Ahr-ah-gorn".

Yah, I thought that was how it was pronounced?
My friends and or friend's friends frusturate me when they go on Entmoot and hate J.R.R Tolkien's works. THE GM FORUM IS NOT ALL, GO ON A CHATROOM FOR ALL THAT'S WORTH. They won't read this 'cause they don't go on the Middle Earth/Tolkien/P.J forums anyway.

Well, this isn't about friends getting things wrong, but what the heck. This radio show said something about hobbits coming from MORDOR!! I didn't know how to contact the station to COMPLAIN so i just relied on other Tolkien fans. Fortunately, someone told them (apparently at the risk of sounding like a nerd) that they come from the Shire. I was in the middle of serving customers at work, but i cracked up laughing anyway. GO you Tolkien fans who must correct error (like me)!!!!!!!

Hey, at least Sauron isn't an Elf.

That would be funny.
I believe that saying "Ahr-ah-gorn" is the correct way. "Air-uh-gorn" is an Americanized way of saying it, I guess. |

Aragorn is pronounced exactly how it is spelt. A-ra-gorn. Not Ay-ra-gorn or Air-ra-gorn.

Short. But what does a British short a sound like? In the US we say Apple, aaa, not ahpple. Oh, this is so interesting! I love pronunciation discussions.
