I can certainly see and understand your view on this, Coney (though quite frankly, to say that it is done in the name of God seems to me a rather far stretch to heap anything possible on Christianity). But I think anyone who believed in capital punishment would disagree; out of curiosity, what would you have done with murderers? Just let them out on the street? Cage them up subjected to prison life until they finally roll over and die, or are murdered?

Well, Insidious Rex, I have no problem with your not looking closely at Christianity. Just so long as you don't make broad statements about it which require close looking. There are things in the Bible that do require looking close, to see the truth. So, just be careful about making broad judgements without looking at the details. The details, and logical analysis of Scripture is one of the ways to find out the truth about questions that cause a large amount of trouble for some nonChristians. If you're not willing to look deeply, you might not find the answer, which might turn you off from Christianity altogether. So, details are important.

Ruinel: I must say that that is your belief, or your opinion, and that many do not agree with that. Out of curiosity, why exactly did you state it there? If I'm not incorrect, it was in conjecture with a Christian's statement on what he believes...:conufsed:

And, I don't want to be pushy, but I would like to know: did you think I was insinuating that you practiced human sacrifice?

Okay, I was kinda worried there, for a while. I thought maybe that was what ticked you off. Glad to see you didn't think I'd said that.

Yes, I was going to bring that up too, Ruinel. Except that I'd taken a hike over to the thread guys aren't allowed in, because I was getting too hot.
Uhh . . . perhaps that was the wrong choice of threads . Anyway. I don't think you can blame Christianity for the electrical chair. That's a huge stretch, to me. You can argue against swearing on the Bible in court, but that is only meant to cause people to tell the truth. It doesn't have anything to do with Christianity as a religion. Plus, the electrical chair is actually an outdated form of execution. It was taken out of action some few years ago, if I remember correctly. Quote:
Meanwhile, in answer to your question (After much effort, I have contained my scream), I assume you've never heard of "Food for the Hungry"? You probably haven't heard of all the Christian programs which dig deep into Los Angeles, helping the criminals. Missionaries go to prisons to help the people there and Christians comfort the families of those who are in need. Our religion has been an inspiration for millions to live a better life, ever since the time of Christ. And before that, if we count Israel. |
