Very well, I'll translate from the Dutch without using your translation. Without mangling though.

The rest of the letters may be placed randomly en you can after read read normally what it says. This is because we don't read each letter on its own but the word as a whole."

Ooh, there are some differences! But I see they're also in the Dutch and German from which we translated.

Salimos perdiendo. Salimos ganando.
Se llevaron el oro y nos dejaron el oro.
Se lo llevaron todo y nos dejaron todo.
Nos dejaron las palabras

Would I be able to get a translation of this? The direct translation seems a bit strange. No me debo quejar, no tengo nada original que decir. Me cuesta trabajo apprender español.

Hope my Spanish isn't too rusty.

Some Norse, as written in the Edda (don't know how many of you will find this interesting, but I do ):

Ár var alda
þar er Ymir bygði,
vara sandr né sær
né svalar unnir;
jơrð fannst æva
ne upphiminn
gap var ginnunga,
en gras hvergi.

It mentions the giant Ymir and the gap know Ginnunga. It's about the creation of the world, according to Norse mythology.

Ga jij naar Nederland later dit jaar? Leuk!

The funny thing is that we're a continent away, speaking two different languages and we're still able to understand eachother most of the time!

Ek kan ook! (?).
I'm so proud, I can vaguely understand what you're saying.

How do Afrikaans and Dutch differ? I know Afrikaans has incorporated many words from African languages (and English?), but are they different grammatically?

Hey, I might start collecting words for 'Go away' in many languages. (Like my 'nicht wahr' etc) Expect me to bug you if you know this in another language. 'Ga weg!'

By the look of it, the method of writing seems to be a little more simplified in Afrikaans and the conjugation of the verbs is different. So yes, I think there will be some grammatically differences. They've evolved independantly for a while too, I think.

And before you ask : Ga weg! (or as we sometimes shorten it at home: 'gweg' )

And other, more colourful ways of saying the same thing: Bolt'em! Trap het af!

Gweg!, Bolt'em! and Trap het af! all sound so funny. Ok, I'm adding them to my sig. Need to find some more first.

I guess the relationship between Afrikaans and Dutch is similar to that of Malaysian and Indonesian (the latter which is based on the former). There are some differences of grammar and some of spelling, but they are easily mutually intelligible. Though the meaning my change a bit, since some words are more the standard in Indonesian, but are colloquial Malay etc. Do you find this happens as well to you?

I'm totally lost in language-land.. I understand nothing!

It looks really interesting, but since I have no clue about anything, it's a bit hard. Help?

What are you confused with?

Vad är de svenska eller finska orden för 'Go away!'?

Oh, and for anyone interested in learning Dutch/Nederlands, remember that Rembrandt is not a verb, but an artist.

<--Look post count! Special year that was!

In Swedish you would say 'stick' or 'dra åt helvete' (the latter meaning 'go to hell').
