I finished Lorna Doone a couple nights ago. Really enjoyed it.
I think tomorrow I'll start Prince Caspian. Then I can go see the movie.

Just started reading The Elephant Vanishes by Haruki Murakami - he is a really wonderful writer (and the translation does well into English) - I recommend for anyone will a hamock, ice tea and lots of free time!

Working me way through a great whopper, name of War and Peace, for the first seminar of next school year. The first four chapters are entirely composed of a soiree, yet Tolstoy manages to keep it interesting; just seeing the way these people relate to each other, and their subtle politicking is fun.

I'm in the process of reading Critique of Pure Reason by Immanuel Kant. I've read selections in political philosophy, but never read the whole thing.

Lord of the Rings is even better, when you get there
I'm rereading parts of it.

Good luck. One of the densest, most terribly written, most incomprehensible, but most fascinating texts of modern philosophy.

Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen -- Really good book. I just finished reading it, actually. My friend let me borrow it, and I just couldn't stop reading it! (Even thought there were some "adult themes" in it, but it wasn't graphic or anything.)

Yep, that's the one that convinced me not to major in philosophy, my unrequited love.

I'm more of a Dosty fan. Another great Russky- Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita", about the Devil showing up in Stalin's Moscow in the 1930s.

I'm pretty sure three out of every four great philosophers would have been convinced not to major in philosophy by the Critique.

I've finally started on The Children of Hurin. I thought I would find it too depressing to get through, judging from reading the story in Unfinished Tales, but reading it as an uninterrupted story helps a lot. Also, reading it in Norwegian rather than in English also helps. Anything to cheer me up, which that sad tale desperately needs.
I'm really glad that Christopher managed to make this version. I only wish he would do something similar with Gondolin, although that would be even more difficult, because there is less finished materials for it.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea? That's what it seems like to me.

That's the one! Maybe my little symbology wasn't so very clever after all!

It was clever. I figured it out right away too though.
As some of you might know I finished The Brothers Karamazov the other day and it was the best book I ever read. I'm reading The Secret Garden just for fun now, because I'd always been a little curious about it. It's cute but I have sort of an issue with it- I'll wait and see if it turns out well at the end of the book. (Like what happened with Lolita- I didn't really like it until I got to the end.) |
