Apparently soap isn't too good for them - not necessarily causing any harm, but reducing the shinyness, causing the need for other cleaning.
I could discuss it with the jeweller, of course ...

Hmmm... as I recall, polishing jewelry is not too difficult, but I could see how it might be a serious concern if the setting of the stone is not strong enough to withstand frequent polishing.

Also I find (by googling) that emeralds aren't as hard as rubies and sapphires, not to speak of diamonds. So perhaps they are more suitable for jewellery that you wear for a "great occasion".
My favorite piece of jewellery is an emerald set. It's part of the Danish Crown Jewels and is kept in the vaults of Rosenborg Palace in Copenhagen (on display for tourists - I've seen it three or four times), and Queen Margrethe wears it sometimes. http://www.royal-magazin.de/daenemar...own-jewels.htm

My stones are of glass, so the shine won't diminish with soap.
I can see the problem if it would with emerald. And using strass in a treasured ring might not be the way to go I guess.

There's no rush, so I can look for good ideas, and even ask the jeweller for suggestions.
But I'll have to do something eventually - currently I cannot even wear it other than on my little finger. And that feels and looks weird.

I salvaged a 100% on my online math quiz! I did my usual panic routine (I really can't seem to control it, my brain just shuts down when faced with timed math problems) and for a minute I thought that I didn't know how to answer two of the questions at all, and I wasn't sure about the other ones.
Buuuuuut I did it, and I got a 100. It did take me about 10 minutes to do the first problem, which is dumb because it was a super easy problem, but it was mainly spent having to mentally reassure myself that I did understand the problem. The last problem I thought I didn't know how to do at first, but after staring at it and fiddling with it for about five minutes I suddenly realized that I did know how to do it after all, and it only took me about 30 seconds to complete. But hey! My being a retard aside, I got a 100! WOOHOO!!! |

Wow!!!! Crack open a bottle of miruvor! *goes to her pantry to find some*
which is related to MY happy thing - I cleaned my pantry! It's all nice and organized now, and easy to see what I have and don't have, so I don't keep buying stuff I already have. Now I just have to keep it clean ... And this is kinda silly, but I just got a really nice set of Oneida flatwear - service for SIXTEEN (16 of : regular fork, salad fork, knife, spoon and soup spoon) plus some serving pieces. I had kind of a mish-mash of flatwear before, and couldn't even set a table of 8 with one kind of flatwear, so it's just really nice to have a nice large (and pretty) set of 16, because I love to entertain. And Oneida is SUCH a nice brand, and it was only fifty bucks at Ross!

aaaaaand, last night I finally did it - I ordered my cool green astronomy laser pointer!!!! It should be here in a week or so. *bites fingernails anxiously*
I can't wait - it's SOOOO useful to point out stars 'n other neat stuff in teh skies My nieces and nephews have been interested in it the last few times we've been camping, and this will be a real help to point out the constellations.

So today in the Math tutoring session, I ended up teaching for about five minutes while the Teacher's Assistant helped some of the other students. He needed to give them individual help, so he asked me to teach a general concept, and I totally did.
YOU GUYS, I'VE NEVER BEEN GOOD ENOUGH TO TEACH ANYTHING ABOUT MATH BEFORE. This is super rad to the power of most excellent. By this point last time I took the class I was already failing, and now I'm teachin' it . ... I mean we're only three weeks in, but this is still super rad. |

The level of pride in an achievement has a lot more to do with where you're coming from than with where you're at compared to the world around you. If this is new for you, it's great - even if you're only three weeks into the course.
One of my proudest moments was when I was able to combine the grammatical concepts I'd learnt with the glossary I'd learnt and compose my first Japanese sentence. It was the equivalent of "This is a spoon", but I found out for myself, the teacher didn't have to say it first for me to repeat! It was only a course of ten days, and meant to teach learning techniques more than teaching the language, so we didn't go much further than to "This is a spoon". But it was still fun ...

Here I am on a Tolkien forum, and I didn't even make that connection! Shame on me! Anyway, what I was thinking, Varna, is maybe you could get a design written on it - not in the Black Speech or anything just maybe some flowers or something?
