Hehe, must be because of your inherent cuteness. People like to help cute people
Yay for you! I love the winter IF there is snow and ICE! Lots and lots of ice to skate on! Distances, icedancing... I love it all. Except for speed-skating. I don't like that.

Oooh I love ice skating! I didn't get to go the past couple years, but this year I'm going for sure! It's such a pretty pastime.

It is! And I have two pairs of iceskates, so I really hope I can use them on natural ice this year. The last time we had that happen is 12 to 14 years ago.

I am tentatively happy because I've discovered/been taught how to get into a head voice that will hopefully match the coloring of the rest of my range!!!!! Last semester I was getting into a kind of head-voice-ish thing, but it sounded really tight and nasal... I was assured it would 'blossom' into a full head voice eventually, but that never really happened.
Today I was practicing, working on getting my resonance to stay placed well forward and to use my support to sing through phrases/scales, when something just sort of clicked... when I tried singing some high scales, I was able to flip smoothly over my break point (past the D4#) without the sound getting tight, nasal, or becoming hard to sustain. I went to my voice lesson, and my teacher decided that since I'd discovered that much on my own he would go ahead and 'finish' the process... I don't think he was expecting me to figure out how to do it so quickly, but he said that if I was going to be messing around with it I might as well do it correctly. He's been telling me lately that he's very happy with what quick progress I'm making, so that's a good thing... especially since he said a few times early on in the semester that we probably wouldn't be doing any high voice stuff till next semester... so I'm getting a big of a jump on the 'schedule' . I dunno. It's not great, and I haven't gotten a chance to record it on anything but my cellphone... but when I do it correctly (which is REALLY DIFFICULT) then there's no obvious 'register flip' sound like I used to get... It's not that it's hard to do physically... It's weird. It's more like a balancing act than anything. If I put too much pressure on the sound, then it 'opens' too much and gets nasal/strained. But if I don't put enough, then it flips directly into falsetto... it's 'difficult' because it's like a balancing act, not because it takes muscle or anything. I -think-... hope/pray/beg-of-the-good-lord... that it's the real thing this time, and not just pulling chest like I used to do. I think it might be the real thing because I can do it softly -and- loudly, when with the pulling chest way it can only be LOUD. But I can do it softly this way, and I feel like my voice is sort of... sitting on top of the note, instead of me having to reach for it like I had to before. We'll see. Having this will let me access, so far, the E4 and F4 reliably without it being too terribly tricky... so I'm relatively certain that those are headed towards becoming usable notes for repertoire. Since this is just 'day one' of using my real head voice (I HOPE O.o) then that HOPEFULLY means I'll have at least the Ab4, if not the A, usable for repertoire eventually. That would TOTALLY kick ass, because then I could sing stuff like this: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2yJ2BF...eature=related ^_^ To quote my teacher: "Well, son, it's certainly not perfect. Far from it. But it's a good start." Last edited by Tessar : 10-31-2008 at 12:13 AM. |

Guess what?
I found a girl! She may be named Meow and is possibly clinically insane, but we are going to have so much fun together. |
