We had to write a compare/contrast essay for English (my first college english class)...

So...I wrote mine comparing Beethoven's Ninth to Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique...now why wouldn't I get 100 on that subject? Still...one musn't get too confident...

I have complete confidence

in your mastery of the content.

Trouble, if any, will arise from technical details, structure of the piece as a whole (clear topic sentence and conclusion, sentence mechanics, so forth), and the teacher's impression of your use of specific examples. Also, doesn't hurt to take an English class that's otherwise full of engineering students.

How many words?

Only 1000 were required, but that didn't keep me from going to more around 1500.

You think I BS'd through it?
I'll have you know Sis, that I worked for hours on syntax, cohesive structure, relevancy, and irreverency...

However, I...um..."modified" the structure he layed out. He said that was ok as long as it was uniform etc...

for instance, he said

Intro
Compare1
Compare2
CompareA
CompareB
CompareX
CompareY
Conclusion...

Mine was...

Intro
Compare1
Interjection
Compare2
CompareA
CompareB
Thesis/Conclusion

Not at all. I think teachers vary wildly in whether they see "wrote over limit" as "student with Zeal and insight" or "screws up my weekend."

You have to try to find out where each teacher falls, though.

Bet he mentions failing to start with your thesis statement.

Well considering my teacher said he'd love to look at our creative writings (i.e. lame short stories), I'd say he's not one to groan at a long paper simply because of it's length.

Little black kitty has a name now: Licorice! She is so weird though. We think she's insane. Literally. Probably OCD or something. She licks herself obsessively, always wants attention, has schedule that she follows, and on top of that she's just plain weird. For instance: she rolls on the stairs with her claws attached, runs around the house for a little bit then acts like she's normal and she begs for food even if she's not hungry. But she's so cute!
