I think McCain should have been elected....and I voted for him...unfortunately Indiana was a battleground state this year and went Democrat (not since the 60s has this happened I believe). Sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone but I think McCain was more qualified, I don't agree with a lot of Obama's policies (I'm basically a Republican) and besides I am pro-life and that is the first thing I look at when choosing a candidate. I am now trying to get more involved directly with the Pro-Life movement. But what's done is done....we shall see if he truly lives up to his promises.

Greetings to the other Hoosier.
I've been an Obama supporter since 2007 - I thought it was awesome that Indiana went for him - and it was 1964 - Johnson - that Indiana last went blue.

This is a warning not directed at any one poster. The tone in this thread is uncomfortable and even a bit bizarre. We should all make the effort to avoid personally directed comments or unintentional threats of violence against now president-elect Barack Obama.

Now that somebody has been elected perhaps the thread should be closed and the discussion shifted to one of the other political threads?

Speaking of the morality police, whichever morality they are policing:
Good day for abortion rights, bad for gay rights. Abortion- Colorado rejects Amendment 48, extending full rights to fertilised egg. South Dakota rejects revised Measure 11, even though it allowed for some (restricted) abortions in the case of rape, incest or life/health of the mother. Prop 4, parental notification, rejected in California. (Parental notification- not consent- is one abortion issue I'm divided on.) Gay rights- Various around the country, all of which further restricted gay rights; the biggie was of course Prop. 8 banning gay marriage in California. Silver lining: Prop 22 in 2000 won by 61%-39%; Prop 8 only by 52%-48%. That's a nine percent shift in eight years. Support among young voters 18-29 was 63% against, the reverse of voters over 65. So it's back to waiting for the cranky old ones to die off....

Well... twas a good day for gay rights in my state.... we've already legalized gay marriage and there were some who wanted to have a constitutional convention in the hopes that this would get people to ban gay marriage again.
Successfully crushed I am so immensely proud of my state that we're one of I think 3 in the entire country who has legalized gay marriage... yay for equality

In case ya didn't know, Tel... America has something called Freedom of Religion... that means people are allowed to practice whatever religion they want and still consider themselves citizens... so putting up quotes from a Christian text is hardly covering all the bases, is it?
Not to mention another little thing called.... separation of church and state! But really, we're getting very off topic... this was supposed to be a thread about the election. My post was on topic because it was something that resulted from the election... if you want to debate gay marriage, that's a whole other thread. And by the way, I am not gay, so I'm not justifying my wickedness or lusts... I'm just THRILLED that gay people can enjoy the same rights as straight people... that's how the world should be. We shouldn't be judging people by the color of their skin or the sexual orientation. Anyway, sorry for the slight off topicness of this post

I am closing the thread. I am also splitting it and removing it (at least temporarily) to the Moderator Forum. Entmoot staff will review it and determine whether we need to edit posts, delete posts - or even just keep the thread completely off the public board.

Who do you think should be elected in 2008?

This thread has been cleaned up and re-posted on the open forum. It has been closed due to the end of the election and the nearing of the 1000 reply limit.
Inflammatory posts, personal attacks and inappropriate language have been removed. Please refrain from these types of comments in the future, especially in threads that have the potential to get "hot", such as political debate. Please take the time to re-read your post. A good rule is to preview the post and think, "Would I say this to Nurvingiel's mother?" Remember that it's okay to attack an opinion, but not a poster. If you wish to discuss the aftermath of the election, the views other countries have on the president-elect, et cetera, please create a new thread for that topic.
