The questions you have to ask are simple:
1. How many people would go 2. How many people who did go could sit through the whole thing 3. How many of those people that sat through would have burst kidneys. It is humanly impossible to capture all of that genius that Tolkein put into these books and keep and audience captivated. Not to mention it would cost enough money to fill the country's deficet.
