I'll try something here...
What? First, slow, then a-sudden fast Then comes crashing down The thing that forms this Rocks' gown? You'll get this in no time, ne'er been much of a riddler.

Hmm. This riddle could be several things. My first guess is the Wave that took Numenor. With the island as the "rock", and the sea as the "gown". |

Teaching Elves Is A Tricky Business
Here's another new riddle for y'all:
The orb of the Teacher whose pupil was slit. On fire without burning nothing within it. |

The Eye of Sauron? Sauron taught the Elves during the making of the Rings. His eye was cat-like and rimmed with fire. |

This should sound somewhat familiar:
Alive signaling death Hot as dragon's breath Not always moving, sometimes downing In the days ere Numenor's drowning |

I don't have my books with me, so I can't check to make sure this is even an accurate guess, but is it some sort of lava or something that exploded from Mt. Orodruin after Frodo threw in the Ring? I'm so glad you're back, KK. I'm going to guess a Palantir. Again, because I don't have my books with me, I can't double check, but I believe that Denethor was holding his Palantir as he burned to death, and the Palantir was not harmed. I guess you could call Sauron (whose pupil WAS slit) his "teacher" because he did learn things from him, like how big the armies were, etc., though he didn't use his knowledge well.

I'm not much of a riddler either but here's another one:
One small golden thread it's purpose, unread, one short simple keeper- from the Lady of Light Pretty easy...

Yeah. It's nice to know you're not going crazy, unable to solve ALL the riddles in the world, because some people think up some pretty stinking hard ones!

Thanks for your guess, Midge. The riddling thread cannot survive without without good tries... P.S. I don't have my books either. |

Another badly written riddle
First set out to entertain, a dwarf work unfurled, but it grew taller and taller, little hole became world.

That one's harder. I didn't know Dwarves liked to entertain!

Correct! One of my favorite "contradictions" in Middle Earth; something so strong moved by something so delicate.

Not necessarily made by dwarves...
Hint: might be a play on words, Dwarves are characters in Middle Earth but the word "dwarf" today usually refers to something small or seemingly unimportant...

First set out to entertain,
a dwarf work unfurled, but it grew taller and taller, little hole became world. Midge! You are forgetting Bilbo's Unexpected Party. They even brought their instruments... Arrrrgh! I sure wish I had my Hobbit. I'm thinking of the dance they did cleaning up Bilbo's place. The plates piled ever higher, etc. |

Here, take a try at this one:
Elanor, Rosie, Frodo, and Merry. Goldilocks, Pippin, here is my query: Who are these people, and tell me whether, there is a reason they’re listed together? |

First set out to entertain,
a dwarf work unfurled, but it grew taller and taller, little hole became world. Okay...this appears to be harder than I expected it to be! Let me bask in the confusion that Keith K also enjoyed... another hint: this riddle is a huge play on words. It refers to one object, but that object may or may not actually be in ME. It might have to do with Tolkien himself...possibly

Oh! I know! It's Bag End! In the Hobbit, when the Dwarves came to see about Bilbo being their burglar, they sang that song "Far over the Misty Mountains cold..." and Bilbo seemed to see the whole world inside his house, or his "modest" little hole!
edit: after that last hint, I'm not so sure, but I'll stick with the guess.
