Why are candidates campaigning in this thread?

Should we have a primary and a general election? Then no one will win with 20% or something. We could narrow it down to the top two and have another election. This could be a repeating event. FUN!

It is my opinion that you will never rid the 'Moot of spammers. Spamming is with us, all around us. We've even seen here, in this thread, how difficult it is to be rid of the spamming. I say that we should encourage them to hold true to the rules of Entmoot with regards to spamming. We should encourage the spammers to look deep within their conscience, to refrain from spamming, seeking help where needed, and be better people for it. It is our duty, as citizens of Entmoot, to help our fellow 'Mooters in their desire to shed the bonds of their addiction to spamming. Do not turn your backs upon them, but embrace them into the fold, help them along the hard path to a spam-free existence.

Paul Tsongas made a similar mistake in the 1992 Democratic Presidential Primaries... came out with this WONDERFUL booklet on proposed economic policy early in the race. Before long, EVERY Democrat in the race had one!

We are all a welcoming committee for the Newbie. This is why we have a "Welcome" thread. Or didn't you notice that?

Do we need fractioning of the 'Moot? I say 'no'. Let us all welcome the Newbie as one unit, all equal, standing together, side by side, with hopeful faces... awaiting, in anticipation, the new member, who surely has something wonderous to add to our happy and harmonious community.

He didn't know FF was doing the same thing, so where's the harm in that? They both thought of the idea independently.

As for what kind of president Hector would make, he would be kindhearted, fair, polite, and intelligent.

Probably musical as well. If you haven't already, Hector, you should compose a campaigning theme and link to it in your sig or the thread. Or make some evil dirge to post in case someone else is elected.

In any case I half expect you to do it because you're cool like that. It'd be a good and presidential quality also.

I realize we all need to welcome newbies, but if everyone was to say, PM them (yes, Hector's idea) that'd be a darn lot of PMs, I mean certain people could be assigned to the task, everyone would be welcome to do so, but a few would always be ding so.

I mean as a "Welcoming Committee"... we are all a part of that. This is why we have a thread for that purpose, to welcome the Newbie. As for PMs, I don't know if that should be assigned to any one member, or group of members. If there's something you have in common with the Newbie and wish to discuss it in PM, by all means do so. Especially if it's something that doesn't quite fit on the board itself. Or, if there are some suggestions you have for the Newbie to make things easier, by all means, help her/him.

Just remember, that not everyone that is new to Entmoot is new to message boards.

I do of course realize that as well, but certain people assigned to certain tasks would make certain thing easier...certainly!

I think it should be voluntary rather than assigned. Like I said before, you may find that a new member has some common interest with you... then you should approach this member in PM. You could suggest threads that she/he might find of interest, because you found them interesting.

Isn't this more efficient than having a member assigned to PM the Newbie?

Another point about PM'ing the new member with help is that there are actually threads that provide some of the help that is initially asked of many new members (ie, 'how do I find/make/upload avatars', 'how do I post a link or img', etc.). When we post information in the threads, it provides that information to all new members and not just one. It's more efficient, and it allows the more seasoned members here a chance to pass on their knowledge to a new group of 'Mooters.

I can feel the panic behind that post

A President should be always ready for mooting!

Now, seriously, the first debate will begin today or tomorrow. When Tessar decides (he'll moderate it). But there will be more debates and this one will last for several days, so I don't think it's a problem if Jonathan begins a bit later.
