HA! Purchased a chisel-point pen - with some difficulties, cuz I didn't know the correct expression for it in my language (it wasn't in the dictionary...) so I had to explain what I exactly want. However, the lady in the shop was very kind and knew at once what I was talking about. So now I have a three-piece set of calligraphy pens.
LOVE my new calligraphy pens! And Tengwar are FUN! And BEAUTIFUL! So... let me try some links... Linky 1... Linky 2... Linky 3... Hope they'll work. Edit: *wipes forehead* yup, they do So... *sheepish* these are my Tengwar

Very beautiful, Littleadanel! I see we have another Silmarillion fan among us
I especially like the last one - "lasse lanta" (leaf-fall, Autumn)

(people visiting RÃ*an's house - "what are those strange markings on that dog?") Hey, Eärniel, I wrote out the title of our rpg in Tengwar - now I just have to get my stupid scanner working! I thought it might be fun to put on the formal info page - what do you think?

Be my guest, but remember that to my knowledge the IMG-code doesn't work in the RPG-forum.

oh, rats - I guess it will have to be a linky-link then.
(If I can get the scanner to work!!) Too bad - that would be cool to have kind of a "title page" for the formal info thread...

I had some calligraphy pens once. I used them for Tengwar, until they were either lost or broken.

It all started when a 15-year-old girl, unconscious of the future, sat down to read The Hobbit... and here she is, 19, writing in Tengwar and claiming that the best day of fall break gonna be Monday when she's gonna buy 2 of the HoME series. Sheesh Wait, WAIT!! I just realized something! Monday... 31st October... right before 1st Nov, which is an official holiday... hope shops WON'T be closed on 31th!! No, no, NO, they can't!! *bangs head on desk* I can't believe this. If they are closed, I'll have to wait until winter break to get near to a decent foreign-language bookstore. *bangs head repeatedly* *sigh* At least I have my brand new calligraphy pens...

Ellemirë wrote me a poem to set to music, and I've been transliterating it into Sarati. It's an interesting task because the only mode Tolkien wrote was for English, and the mode someone made up for Quenya is extremely incomplete.
So, I'm trying to make a better mode for Quenya. And as much as it's frustrating, it's really incredibly fun. I'll post the poem when I'm finished, even though it's written in Sarati, not Tengwar. |

All the info I've found says that Tolkien only wrote an English mode for Sarati, and I've searched a lot of sites.
For Tengwar there is certainly a Quenya mode, but the only examples of Sarati writing I've found are in English. A friend is scanning some more examples for me to look at, so I'll see if they differ. |

Oh, and I found a great website of writing systems!
Here it is... (Or maybe it's new only for me?) Anyway, I found it fascinating. There are the 'real' languages, some invented ones, and quite many systems of languages used in fictions. Sarati as well... but I'm afraid only the English mode.

Ah well. Shops open or not, no book buying, or at least so it seems right now
'Cause, dad wasn't glad about calligraphy pens. Especially after I told him the price. *sigh* I should've told him about it before buying it, I know now, silly me... I just wanted to surprise him, maybe draw something for him... Well, the surprise part worked out. And, to stay on topic, tonight's question in Tengwar... Of course, it's a bit more complicated than that... maybe I'll move to the venting thread...

aw, poor littleadanel. It's always a bummer when surprises don't work out.
I had a few moments today and thought I'd practise my tengwar and angerthas. No, I lie, I really didn't want to start cleaning because the vacuum cleaner broke and the old replace vacuum cleaner is a veritable monster out of hell and I hoped it would be gone if I didn't think of it. My tengwar is so rusty that it rusted through completely. Embarassingly bad. Never did practise enough. But I still got angerthas in my fingers. Those two years of writing rune-letters really did give good result. Did anyone else ever try to write in angerthas? They're a little more straight forward than tengwar.

Yeppers, I've tried them also it's just that whatever I try, are pretty good for English, but not for Hungarian. At least 3 sounds (2 vowels and a consonant) always missing. Maybe I should go back to ancient Hungarian runes to write in Hungarian... I learned them a coupla years ago... hmm...
Edit: after a little rambling on the venting thread, I feel way better. Tomorrow I'll dive into runes and enjoy my pens. At least I should. And now I'll go to watch CSI.
