Bach's Preludes and Fugues... now that's something sun-star will verify we do have. Not that we really ever listen to them though - the BBC had a series of showing a pianist playing them in a graveyard slot, and we recorded most of them... because we had our timer set up to record Seinfeld when the Beeb banished it to midnight weekday viewing.

Whew! *wipes sweating brow heroically* I survived a kids music video yesterday. The story was about Berlioz the Bear, who, very incorrectly from a historical PoV, plays the double bass.
Then LeVar Burton guided us through the streets of New York where we saw musicians with harmonicas, drum sets and bacchan flutes, and of course guitars...and one very lousy clairinet. Then we went to the Harlem Youth Singers etc...which was interesting enough, but mostly funny. Then at the end there was a guy who played the saxaphone through the whole credits, which was suffocating for me...There was also a string trio somewhere in there.
After that I joyfully watched MacGyver

By the way Mercutio, can you also play the organ chorale: "wachet auf uns die stimme", by Bach? It's such a lovely piece. I'm making an organ cd for a friend of mine, and that is definitely going to be on it.

What opera should I get next? Klemperer's recording of The Flying Dutchman is almost in my hands...
So: Parsifal, Tannhauser, Don Giovanni, Rusalka, Salome, Der Rosenkavalier?

If you're wondering what on earth I'm talking about, there is a fantasic choral (and lyrically complex) arrangement of this piece by Thomas Gabriel.

I believe I have it in a book, but I haven't learned it.

The Flying Dutchman recording I ordered ended up bieng a "historically correct" version conducted by Something Weill. Well, it's how the opera was in the 1841 "paris" version.
How much should I complain though? It wasn't what I wanted. That Klemperer recording sounded so titillating...but still...
Oh well, two more Wagner operas to get to know (or three is I want to look into Rienzi).

So my organ compilation goes like this:
Bach works like the two famous Toccatas and Fugues (one of them named "Dorian")
The Passacaglia and Fugue, wachet auf, Prelude and Fugue bwv 543,and the "little" fugue. Then: a Buxthude piece, two by Widor, the ultra strange "Apparition de L'Eglise eternelle" ("Vision of the Eternal Church") by Messaien, and the thrilling "Organ Solo" from Janacek's Glagolitic Mass.

I have Franck's Chorale no.3, but I've never heard of Peeters...
I did think about putting the impressive Franck piece on there, but I wasnt sure about how much space I was going to have left.
