No, actually she sings it in the Italian... which I guess might be a bit surprising for that time period.
I just wanted to say HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! L' Assedio di Corinto is just about the GREATEST THING I CAN HAZ EVER BEHELD IN MEH LIVE!!!!!!!! I'll put it this way: It's a little bit like listening to Beverly Sills, Marilyn Horne, and a handful of other amazing singers do a constant stream of the most difficult, technical vocalizes and scales you've ever heard. This whole opera is just an incredible showcase of coloratura singing from all of the performers... I am totally blown away. I love, love, LOVE this opera!!! There is one trio in particular where at the end Beverly Sills does a melisma to a high note, descends, and then Marilyn Horne does the same melisma, descends, and while she and Sills are still holding their middle/low notes, the tenor does the same melisma.... it's just friggin' gratuitous and awesome . Getting this thing for $5 is a crime I should be locked up for . Sinfully good!!!!! |

Speaking of Marilyn Horne and insane coloratura, what the hell is she doing at 3:22? There's definitely something weird going on, but for the life of me I can't tell what exactly it is.

Don't question Marilyn Horne. She's a goddess

I have to say, I think her ornamentations exceed the bounds of good taste, although they're still really fun to listen to!
Tricky! I was all confused, like "Wait, but Jaroussky already has a CD like that! Why does he need another one?" Then I realized it was the same thing.

*hauls back and slaps you with a white glove* YOU'RE HYSTERICAL, PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you have to ask 'why does he need another one', even if he already has a CD like that, then you really ARE confused. Actually I really prefer the first CD cover, but I guess considering his fame now it makes the CD more recognizable to the casual browser. Plus it's not like he's unpleasant to look at, I guess . But I still prefer the first cover... it was very beautiful. |

Oh, certainly. Beata Vergine's cover was very elegant; one of the better CD covers I've gotten over the past few years.

Renee Fleming singing Muse:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rI65rdrVTdg I gotta say, I'm IMPRESSED. I really love it... which I certainly didn't expect to. I thought it was gonna be crap, but I could absolutely put something like this on my iPod, and I expect I would listen to it rather often . I'm much more impressed with this than with the Jason Robert Brown song she 'belted' on her broadway CD. Interesting interview on her CD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqtNwFPkFew |

Not sure if I posted this here before or not, but if I did, it won't hurt to re-post. Genaux's coloratura is INSANE.

So Jaroussky sings Va tacito e nascosto much better than I would have expected; I always assumed it would be rather too low for him.

Oooh, rather divine. I think my favorite might still be Bryn Terfel, though.... him, or Andreas Scholl.

Going to see Acis and Galatea tomorrow, so I was listening to the delightful little number Happy we tonight. Seriously, it's just so awesome.
I also noticed for the first time that Ian Bostridge looks kinda like the Eleventh Doctor. O.o

I always wonder, when I watch him, how he gets -any- sound out... and also how he doesn't just die when he sings. O_o It looks so weird.

MEEP! Looks like Lemieux's gonna be in TO this January.
BITCHIN!!! Downside: she will be singing Mozart . . . >.> Vivaldi in Quebec, Messiah in NYC, and here I am stuck in the middle with Mozart.

I have to agree, actually. I'm sure it'll be fantastic, but she's surely a Diva of Vivaldi. It's a shame you wont get to hear her singing some of that. |

The real bitch is that Jaroussky will be in Toronto next fall . . . after I leave . . . I nearly had a conniption when I saw that.
