...unlike Handel's Messiah--which was written for Easter--Berlioz's work was actually meant for Christmas

By the way, you should search out the whole thing: it contains a very Christmas-y Trio for Two Flutes and Harp. One of THE lovliest pieces ever composed.

It was CBC Radio 2! (CBC is Canada's nation-wide radio station.) You can listen to it too. Right now they're playing Oscar Peterson since he recently died.

In defence of playing Handel's Messiah:
1. It's still about Jesus
2. Choral work lends itself well to Christmas concerts/atmosphere/etc.

Oh I'm not against Messiah being played during this season, or any other for that matter...it's just that Berlioz's work gets drowned out so much, that Christmas should be a time to bring it out in order to emphasize it.

P.S....I'm afraid I don't have the plug ins necessary for over-the-net live radio

Surely. In my household, we unwrap Santa's stocking gifts first, and then the exchanged ones and big Santa presents. Then massive cooking of brunch with new cooking tools. Then general playtime, while adults get going on huge dinner prep.

You can see by this that we're heathen, no church attendance.

I'm a reformed church mouse, so I took care of that previously.

Then Mari started weeping and her anguished sounds infuriated the Witch Queen even further. She made a move to turn her wand against the poor frightened girl. However, her dear friends Aeran and Bunicula jumped in front of her to safe her of this awful fate.
But lo and behold! The magic of the witch reflected in the nametag on Aeran's new collar and bounced back to hit the witch who then turned to stone!
Now Mari and her friends where safe once more. But what to do with Hector who turned to stone? After a little threatening of the Dwarf by Mari with her mace, he reveiled there was an antidote to undo the stonification.
To get this antidote they would have to travel far, very far. So Mari decided to gather a few friends to undertake this dangerous journey with her.
Until I do you'll have to wait a bit Hector. I must say, you do look rather nice as a statue here in the cafe. It gives it all an artistic touch.
