Scales from which nothing was weighed.
Scales on which all things have played.

Hmmm... in Middle Earth, it might be dragon scales - but the second sounds like maybe musical scales...

Interesting guess Midge, but Tessar's scale is not the one that answers this riddle.

I just love abstract thinking. However, the scales of Sauron do not fit this particular riddle.

Trees, leaves, flowers, scents
Butterflies and eagles
Ships, swans and rain
Spears and an army
Mountains, yes, and rappers.
All were made by the Artist.

And you, my dear Midge, have found one of those few. You have correctly reasoned it out. The Music of the Ainur is the correct answer.

Musical scales are those on which nothing is weighed, and the music of the Ainur revealed all things to come. Played out as a vision of what was to be.

Other than god I can think of nobody who has done all those things. Are there no other riddlers here who can help with this one?

I will venture a guess here anyway. How about Eriol/AElfwine? He passed the stories down to men in BOLT. (doubtful, but I hate not venturing at least one guess while I'm on this page).

While we wait for help on Midge's riddle, I came up with this one rather quickly:

He alone of all his kin
suffered from a painful shin.
And of that kin it does appear,
that he alone succumbed to fear.

Wow. I thought it would be easy. I guess I wouldn't pay that close attention when I was reading the books, either. I wish it rhymed though. Just let me know if you need a hint!

Now for the other matter - I'm going to guess ...

I think it was Nuncle Tim?

"Troll sat alone on his seat of stone
and munched and mumbled(?) an old bone.
For many a year he had gnawed it near
For meat was hard to come by
Done by! Gum by!..."

Anyone for hints? I was excited by this one!

Pay special attention to the last part of the sixth line. That's the giveaway clue that makes it more specifically NOT a god.

The only rappers I know of are of the leaf variety. You know, for the lembas.
