Anyone ever changed their name before? I had always wanted to since I was little, and even more so now, but I was talking to a couple Japanese people about it and they were surprised it was even possible. So in America (or whatever country you`re from) what do you think would be involved?

I might not like my name but I'd never change it. It was a gift given to me by my parents. Here's some info if you really want to do it.

My dad changed his name.
It's not as exciting as it sounds. He's Hispanic, and his Father signed the birth card as Jeorge because that's the mexican way of spelling it. Well, since he lived in America, everyone spelled it George, and he learned to spell it that way too. Sooo everything's going all fine and dandy, until one day when my dad was about 38 and all of the sudden the bank stopped wanting to believe that Jeorge was also George. So he went in and got his name legally changed to George . |

Yeah, my mom changed her name but it wasn`t very exciting either. She just had a cousin with the exact same name so she changed the "i" to a "y" to be different.
And thanks for the link, Faramir. |

Hmm, do you want to change your first name?.. For that, I think those are the acceptable reasons which Eärniel said. (At least here.) For the last name, I've heard about changing to the mother's maiden name - I don't know if it cost anything.

I've thought about changing my name; nothing drastic, though, just adding my confirmation name in officially. My brother tried to get me to go by it.

What's a confirmation name?
My grandma is still trying every road possible to get me to change my name from Helliwell to Evanns (two 'n's--very rare!), my dad (and her) last name. It's been obvious to me for some time she hates my mom's maiden name, and I think it irks her that I have no intention of changing it.

'Tis a name which Catholics (and I believe Anglicans and some Lutherans) take when they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation; they choose the name of a saint.

Or LASSEN! Lassen the Cougar! Like my cat, that's his nickname, because that's the way he walks. We joke that he walks like a cougar from Lassen.

Vinny is a silly name. Lassen has potential, though.
