Hmmm... in Middle Earth, it might be dragon scales - but the second sounds like maybe musical scales...
Thanks for posting!

The twenty-six note scale with which Tessar was bribed? (See the election thread).

Well, if you think it's dragon scales, name the dragon. Or are you guessing dragons in general?
Interesting guess Midge, but Tessar's scale is not the one that answers this riddle. Keep trying! |

A wild Elf throws wild guesses...
The "good scales" of Sauron, as opposed to his "scales of greed", with which he weighed his enemies desires?

It's not the song of the Ainur? There are very few things in Middle-Earth that cover the "all things" category.

Riddle - It's a small one and I expect it to be gotten quite easily.
Elves, goblins, dwarfs, birds Trees, leaves, flowers, scents Butterflies and eagles Ships, swans and rain Spears and an army Mountains, yes, and rappers. All were made by the Artist. And I have a reference for this one.

Musical scales are those on which nothing is weighed, and the music of the Ainur revealed all things to come. Played out as a vision of what was to be. Thank you, to all who participated in solving my little riddle. That was well done! |

Not what I was thinking of. Maybe this will be harder than I thought. Hmm...

I will venture a guess here anyway. How about Eriol/AElfwine? He passed the stories down to men in BOLT. (doubtful, but I hate not venturing at least one guess while I'm on this page). Last edited by Keith K : 04-22-2010 at 02:53 PM. Reason: venture a guess |

While we wait for help on Midge's riddle, I came up with this one rather quickly:
He alone of all his kin suffered from a painful shin. And of that kin it does appear, that he alone succumbed to fear. |

Wow. I thought it would be easy. I guess I wouldn't pay that close attention when I was reading the books, either. I wish it rhymed though. Just let me know if you need a hint!
Now for the other matter - I'm going to guess ... I think it was Nuncle Tim? "Troll sat alone on his seat of stone and munched and mumbled(?) an old bone. For many a year he had gnawed it near For meat was hard to come by Done by! Gum by!..."

Pay special attention to the last part of the sixth line. That's the giveaway clue that makes it more specifically NOT a god.
