I'm going to visit my Dad this weekend! He lives in a different part of the country, so I usually only see him once a year, and this will be my yearly visit.

He'll be celebrating his 80th birthday on Saturday!
I suppose he is an old man then - we just never think about him as an old man

Apart from a sore knee, he's quite fit, and he loves gardening. I expect there will still be some roses around his garden.

His younger brother and sister are coming for the celebrations as well, so there will be a family gathering!

His parents live in Morocco at the moment. They're Iraqi, and my friend was born in Lebanon. So a bit of a mess there.

Yeah, he came here as an exchange student, now he's doing his PhD here.

Well, technically I have a (Dutch!) diploma that allows me to call myself Engineer (in Environmental Sciences).

Truth be told I also wish I had gotten the education and expertise that should go with that title... No wonder they quit offering this course two years later... > <

I am happy because my radio show was way fun and I'm excited to do another soon. I think I'm going to play more electronica next time. It's fun to play stuff really loud in the studio.

No kidding! With the paper, I got a booklet stating the skills I acquired and information on what sort of job I could end up in etc. and while I was reading it, I was thinking: "Oh my goodness, I am supposed to know that sort of thing!?

"... The things in the booklet make it all sound real impressive...
Speaking of which: the second reader of my thesis speeched for me and he was going on and on on how special my thesis was and how impressive etc. but I couldn't stop wondering why I didn't get higher than a 6,7 if it really was that great and impressive

I guess I'm a critical/cynical listener.

Happy - just got back from the neurosurgeon, and my son doesn't need to have back surgery at this time, and most likely never will! (for this particular condition, at least)
