What did the destruction of the ring/Mordor remind Faramir of... and how did he know enough about that to be reminded of it?

I know it's confusing, but it's hard to word it any other way.

For the first part of the question: the sinking of Númenor? No clue for the second part.

Right so far, but how did he... er... let's say... experience the sinking of Númenor?

Faramir saw it in the Palantiri somehow!?
or if i may guess twice in one post...
He saw it in another dream similar to the "Prophecy" Dream of the one ring being found!?

Your last guess is close enough...

Quote:
‘It reminds me of Númenor,’ said Faramir, and wondered to hear himself speak.
‘Of Númenor?’ said Éowyn.
‘Yes,’ said Faramir, ‘of the land of Westernesse that foundered, and of the great dark wave climbing over green lands and above the hills, and coming on, darkness inescapable. I often dream of it.’
Not exactly a prophecy like the other dream, but close enough.

Well then if I am correct then my next question will be...

When was this quote said, and who said it; "When the black breath blows, and death's shadow grows..."?
