i believe the white pillar was given that name to commemorate Ar-Pharazon's initial victory over Sauron, can't remember which book that name came from however... i think it's HoME stuff caveat ~ i had to research this one, hopefully i'm right... it certainly was not at the tip of my tongue

That explains it! I don't have HoME... except PoME.
Yes! Araphor is correct on my other one. You successfully solved all three I had posted... nice work! Especially since the first two had a few players stumped for several days. Next hint I was going to give on that last was that the king's name rhymed with the first two stanzas and his capital city rhymed with the last two stanzas... that would probably have soon led people to 'Fornost' and someone would have found the only 'or' suffix in the royal list. Say brownjenkins... these aren't really that hard to generate. Wanna try and post some? |

We fought with men and elves alike
on that fateful day our men fought hard and swift holding like stones in the fray not fire or fear could win our hearts until our leader fell then from battle we did march singing our solemn song. Its vague, but its the best I could do. We cant let the riddle thread fall apart! Now is the time for rash action! Valandil! Rosie Gamgee! brownjenkins! Keith K! Rise up fellow riddlers!

Alright then, the Naugrim (dwarves) who fought with the Noldor of Feanor's sons and their human allies at the fifth battle in the First Age wars of Beleriand. It was on the plain south of Thangorodrim... what, the Anfaulith (??). They fought and effectively screened the retreat of the Noldor from the dragons because they could withstand great heat and had their famous dwarf war helms/masks. They fought until their leader was killed by Glaurung (and as he died, he gave the beast an upward knife thrust that sent him running back to Morgoth). Then the dwarves picked him up and just marched out in funeral procession style - and nobody dared mess with 'em!

Well, here we go again, trying to jump start a dying thread. I cant keep coming up with riddles on the spot! I need a little support! Valandil, you're cool, but everyone else, in the name of Bilbo Baggins in Gollum's cave, please, join the Riddle Thread, make some riddles, think through the riddles! I know you're out there, come on out and have some fun in here!
I dont really know how it all worked out I'm really not that spectacular of a guy I just came into it I guess, And soon, many wanted me to die! I had to walk pretty far, though and when I reached the end I didnt even accomplish my mission and ended up with a four fingered hand Easy, but at least its there.
