Heh, I've been doing that since I was little. The downside is, you have to do it several times to keep it from itching again and I tend to break the skin then, which is not nice when you want to put any cream on it afterwards.

I feel sorry for her.

THAT'S why, children, it's better to date and marry people your relatives hate.

Can't imagine every Aunt is thrilled that they won't be related to royalty, even royalty as maritally dysfunctional as the Windsors.

LOL Yes, it was partly that and partly the Iran thing. It's been a particularly bad couple of weeks here for little details like consistency and honesty...

Critical of the government and of the sailors who were captured - two of them sold their stories to the press, and the papers who weren't successful in bidding for the stories then turned on the sailors for selling them. The Government have been blamed for allowing the sale, so really it's ceased to be about Iran at all, and turned into the predictable, hypocritical witch-hunt.

One of my gerbils died last night. Which is okay... I'm sad about it, but I know I'll get over it.

That's not the bad part. The bad part is that one of the still-living gerbils chewed off the dead one's head and was eating the dead one. That is so freaking sick. Oh my God, that is just horrible. They had food, and water. WHY would they eat each other?

I know this one!
When this happened to me, I went to a vet and asked...I wasn't sure whether I had some kind of hamster bunnicula or even if the death had been due to natural causes. But, apparently, they think it's because leaving bodies around in the wild attracts predators. So they recycle the nutrients at the same time as keeping the environment clean.

Gross, but logical.

Sorry.

We have hamsters - furry and cute, but those suckers can be mean! We keep them in separate cages now. Even the siblings started fighting each other (we ended up with baby hamsters because the pet store made a little mistake ... )

Sorry about your gerbil

Okay, another one died. So now I have one gerbil left. Argh!

So now I need to try to find at least one other gerbil she can live with... which means I'll have to go through the whole process of introducing them so that they see each other for a while (otherwise they'll kill each other), and then once I get them together I'll have to monitor them for a few weeks.

This is not what I was hoping to have happen.

Fortunately I had a faaaaaaabulous meeting with one of the voice teachers, and then I met another one on the elevator and we talked for about ten seconds. Which was awesome. Because he knew who I was. o.O Apparently he remembers me from my audition.

... stupid gerbils. Why did they have to die now?

*is glad that Tessar's pet's are dying off*

Just kidding...I hate when animals die. It's traumatizing to drive by dead dogs and cats on the side of the highway every day...

What are you using for bedding? Cedar chips are dangerous.

Oh you're friggin' kidding me.

... I remembered it being -pine- shavings that were dangerous. I usually use aspen bedding, but for the last six weeks I put them on ceder because when I went to the store they were out of aspen.

Oh geeze....

[EDIT]

Tessar = stupid pet owner who killed his friggin' gerbils.

Fortunately I had a new bag of aspen that I bought the other day, and I changed it when I got home and found the second one dead.

Geeze, this really bothers me, because I did a -ton- of research and I've gone to great efforts trying to ensure that my gerbils were healthy, and happy. And then I go and buy ceder shavings. GEEZE!

I'd recommend just keeping one per cage, Tessar. We finally gave up and did that with our hamstoids, and they're just fine.

Actually hamsters are solitary creatures and will often fight if you put them together, but gerbils are social animals who form 'clans' of a sort and really need the company of other gerbils to be happy. However if another gerbil, or gerbils, from another clan are put in, they two will fight to the death unless they're properly introduced.

In fact often if you take out one gerbil for as much as two days, you'll have to gradually reintroduce them, because the gerbil will smell different, making the other gerbils think it's from a different 'clan'.

Gerbils are so weird.

But SO cute!!!!!
