While I don't particularly like Bush, putting the entirety of the blame on his shoulders is unfair. It's not like he took the presidential Master Card and went and charged 9 trillion dollars himself. That debt has been backing up for a -long- time.
Now mind you the fact that he's done nothing to slow the rate of money spillage... that's pretty damn bad. |

Canada's debt is $467 billion dollars. I remember when the federal government balanced the budget a few years ago. Naturally they made a huge smoking deal out of it. They didn't try to outline the fact that this just meant they had simply stopped digging, not climbed out of the hole. (The equivalent of me spending less than I earn in a month and then pretending my student loans disappeared.)
Still, balancing the budget is a start. Mari, your debt is roughly half ours so I guess you're doing okay. Nautipus, I love your fish! He is gorgeous!
