In the U.S., a college is an institute of higher learning which you go to after high school (grade 12). University is a college with more offerings and ususally part of a larger network. You can get a 4 yr degree in a college while a University can take you to graduate degrees; Masters and Ph.D.
or as the web says: In the US, college has been the general term, and is still usually applied to a small university or degree-granting educational institution having a single curriculum of study. The name university is given mainly to larger institutions which are divided into various faculties and which more resemble the universities of Europe.

Oh, my. Lots and lots of posts since I was last here. So I shall just drink my frapp and be ignorant of what you're conversing about.

Any Stephen King fans around? the whole world of Grey Wolfs wonders? (in that case give it your best shot at the clues in DYKT (TOO)!
And by all means - do try your best on the Tolkien one too (in the ME forum). Last edited by Grey_Wolf : 09-09-2006 at 07:11 AM. |

I'll talk to you Pippin, I don't know what they're talking about either. I see you have a frappaccino, good choice! I'm going to make myself an iced, grande, non-fat, caramel macchiato.
I worked at Starbucks for part of the summer. But I can't spell things from the menu, just say them.

The Puritans just make me so sick! In California, they increased the age to buy tobacco from 18 to 19. Why would you do that? There is no logical reason. People hate smoking, and it's just stupid. Of course, I knew that it was really cigarettes the laws were targetted at, so I felt a certain discontent smoking my pipes and hookah, and felt I had to take the last step to join the tobacco brotherhood.
Now, in CA, you can officially fight and die for your country, you can have sex with anyone you choose (as long as they also are of age), but you cannot buy a pack of cigarettes or a beer. That is just absolutely retarded. But I'm close to done; after this pack, or maybe one more (I smoke a pack in about a week), I'm going to cut down majorly, and not smoke regularly. Just keep a few around for social smoking, or major stress-outs. The Puritanical excesses over here are just absurd, you know. In Pennsylvania, if a parent gives their 19-year old child a glass of wine with dinner, in their home, they call that illegal. In Britain (which I understand many Continentals don't consider really part of Europe ), the British Pipesmoking Council used to give out a Pipe-smoker of the Year award, but they were forced to stop, because it was seen as "advertising tobacco", which is illegal. You can advertise just about anything, as long as it isn't tobacco... It's just totally blown out of proportion.

I am opposed to laws forbidding alcohol and tobacco to younger people, that's for certain. Monitoring and limiting, perhaps, but not forbidding. All the whole thing is a blind and excessive reaction.

yep..the whole '18' thing in this country is stupid, cos then it makes people go out and get completely wasted as soon as they hit 18...in countries where it is more common to give younger people (but not too young) a glass of wine or whatever with dinner they have more respect for alcohol
