*The Illiterate Monster was very annoying because it always wanted to have everybody sit down have a read-along, it not being able to do so itself, this invariably ended up with all guests reading and he reading nothinig.*

*Meanwhile the Alliterate Monster walked around quoting books where most if not every line began with the same letter.*

Empress, I'm not really the waffle type, but do you happen to have some of that homemade bread you mentioned?
Sure! What kind? Wheat? White? Rye? Cinnamon?

Or how about a nice muffin?

Just look forward to tonight then.
We had a lot of rain as well, so we broke out the wintery food already

Oh I imagine wintery food in the Netherlands consists of edible Tulips grown in Windmill-powered greenhouses coupled with Brown, sugary waffles that contain hints of Hashish all mixed in a sweetsour sause brought directly from the Dutch East India Company in Indonesia!!

Anyways
Bag End isn't an "outpost". It's one of the largest houses in Hobbiton. It's a farking estate.

Do you think The Took lived in an "outpost"?

They ate tulipbulbs in the winter of '45. My grandfather was stuck in the city in the hungerwinter. He said they taste real bad.

We ate a potatostew with Kale (see 'culinairy uses' for a description of what we call it)
It is very good

Um... Bag End is where Bilbo Baggins, and then Frodo Baggins lived. The Tooks had no direct ownership in the Bag End, they (the Took family) did not live there and they never have. Bag End was, as far as I recollect, made by Bilbo's father, Bungo.

Bag End lies as a pocket in the Hill, which according to Tolkien himself made the Hill to be on the outskirts, even just outside, of Hobbiton. The Bag End was most definitely outpostish in geography, and if it has confused you, know that PJ's rendition of Hobbiton is woooooefully out of touch with reality

But this wasn't my point!!! All I'm saying is that the Norwegian translation Lommelun stays true to Tolkien's way with with words and meanings. Now go be difficult with someone else

Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

As someone who is ethnically mostly Irish American, married into a Dutch American family I find this hilarious.
Actually the Dutch like lots of chocolate too and even eat shaved chocolate on toast for breakfast.

Coffeehouse, don't lecture me, boy. My personal copy of LOTR is older than you are.

From the point of view of a hobbit Bilbo and Frodo lived in a comfortable house in town. It was not a 'pocket". It was not an "outpost".It had "bedrooms, bathrooms, cellars pantries" and "whole rooms devoted to clothes.". They had "lived in the neighborhood of The Hill for time out of mind." and it was "the most luxurious hobbit hole that was to be found..."

On that basis, making it sound like this : is just wrong.
