That is SO true. One time, I walked out on a performance at the San Francisco Symph it was THAT bad, one would expect better from such a stellar musical group, but... and I wasn't the only one! Appx. half or more of the audience got up and left, during performance. That rarely happens, too, in that world; everyone's so friggin "polite," but boy howdy, they walked out on this one! And for damn good reason. That was like ten years ago, maybe even more like 14 years ago my GOD how time does fly. I cannot recall even what composer was being played; some late 20th century wannabe no doubt. I think it was right after George Perle resigned as Conductor-in-residence. Stick a crappy score with a crappy conductor, and it can be pure torture, just like bad commercial hip-hop!

Oh, yeah. That bad. I am not kidding, man, it was friggin' gruesome. Three quarters of the audience thought so, too, mind you, and it was like the beginning of the season, when everyone dresses to the nines and pretends to "be somebody" because they're attending the Symphony performance. Even the incorrugible fakes & snobs were scared off.

Well, I have yet to go to any live performance, because
1.) I wouldn't fit the dress code (even the way I dress wearing polo shirts and khakis on a regular basis).
2.) No one would be interested in taking me.
3.) No one would feel it was worth the money to even drop me off with one ticket.
4.) No concert halls that I know of around here.
5.) Can't seem to find anything that fits my schedule.

So, I just have to wait till I can take myself there, got to wait another four years.

Stupid dress codes and anti-classical pests.

Which reminds me.

At La Quinta High, there is a wide variety of clubs, none of which fit my interests exactly (some I don't understand their purpose yet, nor can I get info--like the schools Central Intelligence Agency ). The assistant pricipal said something about creating a club, so I'm beginning to think about that.

If I were to create a club, I think I would start with Music Appreciation, since as far as I know, there is no music appreciation class.

Just my favorite thing, writing and sending Newsletters. I can write them up, sure, but I'm definitely not good at keeping on-schedule with the one I'm supposed to have already (it's supposed to be a monthly issue, but three months have gone by since I sent the first one out and I havent' done any since.

#2 and #3 are just silly, because if I knew you in RL I would LOVE to take you, and as far as I'm concerned, it is worth WAY more than the price of a ticket to show someone important and appreciative a live orchestra performance, oh, WAY more!!! And as for #5, well, you'd MAKE time if someone invited you and paid for the experience, believe me! And if you didn't make time, you'd be a fool not to, because sometimes in life things really DO just get handed to you, and if you don't "carpe diem," those opportunities get lost sometimes 4-ever. Take my word for it, I know what I'm talking about, dear trolls' bane, for real.

BTW, DEFinitely create a club. I created the Chess Club and the French Club when I was in high school, and revived the Drama Club when no one else cared. It is a tremendous opportunity 4 U to not only build up your "resume," i.e. your transfer info - your "permanent file" - which college admin boards such as that of M.I.T. and Harvard et al really pay attention to, but ALSO it gives you very valuable leadership and organisational experience for the real world and stuff like that.

That is so true! In fact, I know how to go to one: I use that ActiveWorlds to make a concert hall, then get that Dolby Pro Logic set up to my computer simultaneously with the monitor speakers and the external speakers and subwoofer set by use of sound splitters... J/k.

I'm glad someone is willign to take me.

You bet I'd make time ! I had an opportunity to go, but it turned out that the people taking me were fraudulant publicists who had just been released form prison.
I'd be in a music class at my school so I wouldn't HAVE to make time, just the music , but, you can only enter those classes if you already know how to play something. Of course, I was teaching myself how to read music out of that book, but that didn't help because I didn't know what anything sounded like.
I know, I'm going way off topic in a useless ramble.

Well, right now I'm listening to the Forging Scene again.

What forging scene? The Forging of the One Ring scene? I never bought the soundtrack 2 LotR because I bought all the movie DVDs and it just seems like overkill to buy the soundtrack too. To me, anyway.

Thanx 4 the link, trolls' bane! KUSC is my favourite classical station; it is WAY way better than 105.1 don't you think?

Much better! They are so much nicer. Of course, I used to switch to K-Mozart during their membership drives. I was dying to give something, but I don't have enough yet. I could pledge for two months. Of course, I know someone who could donate their car for me...used to be a racecar in legal drag racing competitons, but went to crap recently. Then there's my dad's old chevy Nova, which he sold to the same guy (who later decided to fix what wasn't broken.)

Edit: I just started streaming them through Windows Media.

Listen, don't start donating to public radio penny-snobs, O.K.? You have a gadzillion better things to be investing your money in, at your age & position in life; believe me these radio stations do NOT need your money, YOU need your money. Use it to make your OWN radio station, for god's sake!!

Sounds like John Adams , a composer I dislike not only musically...
There ARE some good contemporary works out there...by Ellen Taafe Zwilich, Christopher Rouse, and Tan Dun, to name a few.

I'm not sure I like this countertenor stuff...pretty weird, and actually pretty useless. They [try to] sound like sopranos, but the range is incredibly low and extremely boring. I was listening to a disc of Andreas Scholl singing music of John Dowland. I've never been so bored with classical before...there have been some pieces before that I didnt really like, but this one really laid it on.
I like old music (Hildegard!), but this was plain boring.

I bought Bach's Mass in B minor, Klemperer conducting. Was that a good pick FM?
