The Gates of Gondor? I'm not sure what that means... shouldn't it be the gates of Minas Tirith?

I think the answer in that case would be the Witch-King of Angmar, and Gandalf didn't face him because he had to go rescue Faramir from the homicidal Lord Denethor.

yes, correct, sorry about that, shoulda been minis tirith, i was sick, and when i get sick, i sometimes get slightly delirious, which impares my thinking ability a tad...
