I've never used a site like ratemyteacher.com. I don't put very much stock in them. I do fill out the student evaluations our university profs give out at the end of the term. I'm honest, and put both the good and the bad from as objective a point of view as possible. The quality of teaching at university is higher than high school in my experience, though I have had a couple dud profs here, most have been excellent.
I had a a few amazing teachers in high school, most pretty good, with a few complete duds. I don't really see the usefulness in anonymous complaining on a website though. Was it built by teachers, students, or the schoolboard?

So you are saying it's okay to say the 'S" word, as long as bull is in front of it?

well, its a place to voice your complaints anonymously without the teacher treating you any differently.

I'm talking about legitament complaints here. Sites like these of course are also used for silly and legitamit compliments and sometimes unwarented teacher bashing.

But hey, the teachers don't have to look at it and if they do they should take it with a grain of salt and try to take in to account the ones that seem serious.

I have left complaints on a few teachers (last year). They were all legitament.

As far as I know, this site is nationwide (maybe even worldwide?) - kids can post comments about teachers from schools from every state in the country (usa).

Just select your state and there is a very long list of schools and when you click on that school a list of most of the teachers appears - if not there you can add it.

I'd assume this was made by students or ex-students most definitely.

There is no schoolboard or teachers association that would make it.

That's not really fair to say, IMO. "They're defending teachers, oh yeah they must know one otherwise they would see reason."

I'd say: not necesarily. I think credit should be given where credits due. Teachers come in all sorts: you've got good ones and you got bad ones. Besides I don't think you can compare all teachers worldwide, there can be much difference.

i wonder how those who complain about teachers would feel about a ratemyparents.com or ratemystudent.com?

the parent, the child and the teacher all play an important part in a person's development... so if it's okay to rate one in public, it should be okay to rate all

I agree brownjenkins. Parents and teachers play an equal role in teaching, and the student has to do their part learning. A student will be dissatisfied with their education if any one of these aspects is missing.

Well students get rated all the time - their report cards and teachers are always bitching and moaning about parents lack of interest.

I agree that all play a role. But I agree with Tristan - including his views that a lot of people who were BLINDLY defending teachers as if they do no wrong and have the hardest job in the world with no respect are associated with the teaching profession in some way.

I personally feel there is nothing wrong with it. Teachers aren't perfect and many of them shouldn't even be teachers. Some of them, as in all professions, are just plain terrible.

parent's lack of interest is the major reason why kids fail in school... a good parent can make up for a bad teacher much more easily and effectively than a good teacher can make up for a bad parent

most teachers bitch and moan because, like many of us, they want to be successful and satisfied in their profession... unfortunately, unlike many other professions out there, teachers have very little control over the final product they turn out... and yet, they are often treated as if they are solely responsible for the child's education
