For all those people who believe that "ghosts" exist:

What is a "ghost"?

Oh, and Faramir, would you PM me your "proof", please?

One condition, though: If you do PM me, I am permitted, if able, to debunk your "proof" in public.

Thanks AE. I hadn't been following this thread too much and I didn't see that said. Since Faramir seems to have edited out his statement - I must assume he rethought it. But I would like to set the record straight - I hardly ever drink.

For your information - there were several times where I had felt my mother's presence after she died. One was when I had cooked dinner (Chicken Cordon Bleu) for the family of our closest friends in Indiana. I was sitting in my mother's seat at the dining room table. After everyone was done - they all said how great dinner was. At that moment I could have swore I felt my mother standing behnd me and her hand on my shoulder. I had to run out of the dinning room - I couldn't deal with it. My father ran to follow me and gave me a hug to confort me. He thought I was so upset because of my mother's death - but the real thing that made me so upset was that the presence of my mother was so strong - i just couldn't deal with it. I could actually feel her hand patting my shoulder and standing behind me. I never told my father. There were several other times - such as when I was laying down in a hotel room in Chicago with my eyes closed. I opened them and she was sitting on the other bed looking at me and she said not to worry - everything will work out.

People can believe it or not - I really don't care. But religious people seem to go out of their way in trying to stress that god exists or that creationism is the truth - yet there is no proof of either. And I've never heard a religious person on Entmoot say that they've seen him/her Yet they seem to have no problem believing in the bible. A book that no one knows who actually wrote. And god may exist in some form or other - but I have never actually seen the presence of god - even going to Catholic school all my life.

The other episode - which I had mentioned - but didn't elaborate on dealt with my grandfather, who I actually didn't believe was dead. I was in second grade, The door to my room was open and looked down the hallway. I was laying in bed - the hallway light was on. I saw my grandfather turn the corner from the living room into the hallway and walked down the length of it. He stopped at the doorway of my bedroom. He raised his hand and went to step into my room. The moment his foot landed on my floor he disappeared. To me it was his way of saying good-bye. I wasn't afraid - I just watched him. I was actually upset that he didn't come into my room. Years later I found out from my mother that I was supposed to go to his wake and funeral. My aunt was supposed to come and pick me up for it because my parents were dealing with my grandmother at the time. My aunt never picked me up because she felt I was too young to go. My mother was furious with her. After I found that out - it even made me believe more that my grandfather came to give me one last goodbye - because I wasn't given the oppurtunity to say good bye to him.

Again - I can care less whether people believe this or not.

I also had many occurences happen in our South Brunswick New Jersey home while I was in 7th to 12th grade - that did not occur at any other house I have lived in. The house was built on the land of an old 1700's farm. The farm is still there and lived in to this day. Many people have died there during the years - including a twin sister committing suicide by hanging herself after her other twin died. When I told my mother about being annoyed by this ghost - because it wasn't scary - it just seemed to play tricks with taking my pens when I tried doing my homework or something - she said that that was impossible because we had built the house and no one had died in it. When I went to college and moved to Indiana - I actually missed the ghost being around. And I know most people will say that I just misplaced my pens - but it wasn't like that. When I'd do my homework at my desk in my bedroom - I'd put down my pen to read something. I'd go to pick my pen up again - and it wouldn't be there. I'd look everywhere for my pen. Finally I'd get fed up and say out loud "That's enough, I need to get this done. Give me back my pen." I'd look around again for my pen - it would be on the floor where 5 seconds before it wasn't. This went on repeatedly for the entire time we lived in that house. No one else experienced it as far as I know.

part II due to 5,000 character limit

People can think what they want. I'm just relaying experiences that I have had. I debated whether I should say these things. I've told very few people in my life about these experiences. But right now I don't really care what people think about them.

On the question of UFOs. Statistically - UFOs would more likely exist than not. With billions of stars and billions of planets and billions of galaxies and possibly billions of universes and the billions of things that may contain the universes - there is bound to be intelligent life on other planets. Most likely many of them have discovered ways of travel and technologies that is beyond our wildest dreams. Even a hundred years ago - if a person tried to descibe the things we live with on a daily basis - they would not have believed it. Being able to communicate with anyone in the world instantaneously, being able to send pictures, video, audio all in a split second, satelites that can broadcast or display the weather for any part of the globe, spy satelites that can zoom in on a newspaper headline in the Middle East - all this would be incomprehensible to someone from the 1800's. The commercialized World Wide Web is only 10 years old - yet we consider it as a very important part of our lives. Something that I know I have a very hard time living without.

Quote:

The holy spirit/ghost. And I say it every Sunday! (Ok sing it)

The part of the song goes,

"And I believe in the holy ghost,
The somethingorother and giver of life."
Tesser - I didn't think you were Catholic - but are you trying to do the Apostle's Creed?

Quote:
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into hell.

On the third day He arose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

Amen.
I like how you said "somethingorother" but you say it every Sunday at church.

Spookey

This is pretty neat.
Apparently the owners of this house had been seeing images and
hearing
voices for quite a while.
They did some research and found that a lady once lived in the
house who
lost her husband during the civil war.
Legend says that she used to sit at the table and look across the fieldsin
anticipation of her loved one returning home. He never came.
So, they say she still waits.
They caught this photo of what they claim to be her. This one was
wild and a little spooky once you find the ghost in the picture. It took
me a few seconds to find it, but when you do it just stands out.
Likeone
of those optical illusions.

To save you some time, concentrate around the table. Best not to focus too
much on one spot.
Look around the table and toward the window.
Click on the link below for the picture. Best to enlarge so that thepicture
is full screen.
For an added touch turn up the volume, it's faint but you can hear the
ghost talking sometimes in a low murmur. It may give you a clue to what you
are looking it may take a few moments but be
patient.
You will see her.

Hummmmm.... this reminds me.

I think that people will some times come back like JD was saying.

Also some of you may know that C.S. Lewis said that when he was writing one of his books that had something to do with the devil (The screwtape letters?) he said that he always felt like some one evil was watching over his shoulder.

No JD, thats not it. Its a song that has a simmiler meaning but is not in quite the same words. (although we do say the Creed too ). And I'm Romen Catholic. Why does every one think that I'm some kind of wickan or something?!

I've never thought you were Wiccan. i just thought maybe you were one of the other Christian religions. Like Southern Baptist or Pentecostal.

*coughs for attention*

I found the first issues of X Factor a conspiracy thingy which before you say it is not 'argh alieans take over the world' it supplies both sides of all the weird stories so you can decide yourself.

ANyway, i was reminded of this.
Basically theres this man and he looks at 'ghost' cases each year and determines whether there is a ghost. BUT he does not belive in the kind of ghost we are discussing.:

'I believe, personally, that ghosts and apparitions are forms of electromagnetic energy between 380 and 440 millimicrons of the infa-red portion of the light spectrum -and that is all'
