Quick tip for those getting tats: Take a book to read or some music to listen to, I was stuck in the chair for over three hours getting my tat

I'm getting the tengwar character thule (or sule) on my ankle. it means 'soul' and also stands for 9. I've already drawn it on my ankle numerous times with a black pen, just to see how it would look. I think I'll get it when I go to england. . .E XK are we still getting tattoos when I come?

Go to barrowdowns.com and you will find some downloadable fonts. Do so and you can type up some phrase that would be meaningful to you and have that put on as a wrist/arm/leg band.

A wizard tattoo would be neat. I have about ten tattoos myself.

I want a LotR tat, but I'm having difficulty thinking of where to put it. See, I'm a dancer, so I can't have a tat in the usual places, like shoulderblade, etc, because you can see it and the directors don't like that

. Ideas? (It'd be small, like one word in Tengwar or a sprig of elanor/athelas)

You could decide on an Elvish name or translate your own (if you don't have one already), and write it in Tengwar. I'll tell you how to write it, I have the whole halphabet off by heart!

Tailbone? Belly button area (probably not such a great idea though, cos of potential weight gain, pregnancy etc)? If it was small, the ankle might be okay; would suit the type of tattoo as well.

hmm, if your only getting a small tat then it is probably going to be easy to hide it with cosmetics.

The perscription cosmetics issued by a doctor to (intended to cover scar tissue, skin grafts etc) works brilliantly

Ankle is deffo a good suggestion and if you wear your hair long then somewhere on your back normally covered by your hair may be an idea.

I like the sprig idea. So many people are getting tats of tengwar anyway.

I think the sprig of elanor or athelas would look really striking on your ankle. What a good idea... maybe I'll steal it.

Actually, I've been thinking about that for a long time. I finally decided: Its going to have all the weapons from FOTR (starting with Narsil in pieces, Andruil, Glamdring, Sting, four Westernesse blades, Gandalf's staff, Saruman's staff, Legolas's bow, Gimli's ax and the Horn of Gondor) and they're going to be surrounding the One Ring. Inside the One ring is going to the Horn of Gondor over Boromir's shield. Its all going to be done in green with the One Ring in gold. I'm going to have it done on my back, just over my pants line to the right. Yes before anyone says anything I know I'm going to have to go to one hell of an artist.

Anyone ever read Kushiel's Dart, by Jacqueline Carey? I really like the idea of a marque up my spine; if I did that, I'd have to give up dancing, though, so it doesn't look like I'm doing anything like that soon!

I was ready to post the same thing Sminty. Why haven't more people wanted Smaug? After all, a lot of tattoos are of dragons (I may have just answered my own question) an if your looking for a LotR reference, I would think Smaug's the way to go.

I'd also think that more people would want the Tolkien rune. I draw that all over the place as it is, and might not mind having it etched in my flesh. But I've a while to consider it.
