Concerning orc to elves in the professor's later writings he changed his mind and thought they might be corrrupted men. IIRC he was going to rework the whole mythos.

It seem that Elves act just like men but with better stats. But you wouldn't mind dating one though.

And I wouldn't mind dating one either, too. Seriously the nobility of men, especially in the Silmarillion, can be seen that despite their mortality they were the only ones who consistently behaved heroically. Even in their corrupted state (Turin Turambar). Of course, there were a lot of evil men, those who betrayed the elves to Morgoth, but it was through men or their progeny, that all of Middle-earth was consistently saved. So, 'man' all the way for me. Still want to date elves, though. S'matter of fact, dating one now. No Noldo, though; Sindar, Vanyar, Teleri ok. |

Yeah, Elf chicks are Da Bomb
But, it was the progeny of Noldor and Man that "saved" ME in the First age. Finrod was a noble character. The second age it was the Might of Men and Elves that saved the day. And the Royal Line does have Elven blood in their veins. Personally, I'd like to be me ( BUT all mage like and stuff) with an elf-chick. As long as she was not a haughty type.

I wouldn't really say 'inspite of' their mortality; more 'because of'.

Would you want to be immortal?
I sure wouldn't - much too human.

Elves have to be the most magical creatures in LOTR. they're amazing. i mean, even now i'm wondering why there isn't an elf message icon. it may take a long time to live an elf's life but that'd be great. thousands of years as the same person isn't that bad. besides, you only get to live until your 90's if your human.

Well my name means "The graceful one" and I do Ballet so I suppose I could be called Graceful. And I DO hug trees. And I AM good with my hands. And I'm supposedly very clever (I've been told anyway.) But I've never used a sword or a bow and arrow. And I don't have beauty on my side. Could I be an Elf?

In my personal life I am more like an elf than any other race of middle earth.
I backpack and I love getting out there in the middle of the woods or fields or hills or mountains and just walking and being refreshed by all that this world once was, but is now not (which really saddens me to the quick). I especially love the stars at night, away from the city lights. I have fair skin, deep green eyes, and flaming red hair and if I say so myself I'm not bad lookin' either. I'm only 5'2" tall but I walk like I'm 6', and everyone steps aside to let me by. I am athletic and strong for my size (but I'm not bulky, I'm slender). I was a vegetarian for many, many years and even now prefer a vegetarian diet although I will eat meat on occasion. I'm friendly. I believe that we are put on this earth to touch the lives of as many people as possible and to bring peace and harmony. (Yes, I know this sounds hokey.) I think it would be thrilling to be immortal, to watch the growth of human kind all over the world from century to century. But I think it would be painful as well. People have the capacity for cruelty that never ceases to surprise me. And that is why I would love to be an elf. By the way, I was at the movies yesterday and a trailer was shown before the movie. I am not particularly a fan of any actor but I know there are a lot of Orlando Bloom fans at this site (since someone mentioned him in this thread) who will want to see Pirates of the Carribean with Johnny Depp. |

When you're a human teenager in highschool with acne, chronic illnesses and a life of maybe 80 more years filled mentally taxing, boring, unending work followed by a painful decline into old age and death to look forward to and you know that somewhere out there, even if only in our minds, a world exists in which we could be a race that is immune to illness and has all the time in the world then isn't it only logical that you would wish to be one of that race in that world even knowing the downsides of both?

I think all that went under the "painful decline into old age" bit.

It seems that people think that liking nature and poetry are endevors only done by Elves which is erroreous.
Forgot not Elves killed their own kind ,were prone to hubris, greed, anger, violence etc.

Feanor: great example of "hubris", "anger", "violence". The Kinslaying at Alaqualonde! Do I need to say more? Elves in The Hobbit: always thought they were "greedy" when they came after Bilbo and the Dwarves at the Lonely Mountain (of course, after Smaug was killed). All in all, though, there are many examples of good Elves. However, to say that all Elves have the qualities of goodness, love of nature, etc. as Afro-Elf states... is erroneous. |
