salieri und mozart
A new cd just came out called "Salieri arias" sung by...some famous opera singer. Its purpose is to take salieri out from the shadow of mozart.
what does everyone think about this 'salieri killed mozart' thing? i think it could have happened, but since we have no evidence of it, its unlikely overall. good story though.

I think he was speaking metaphorically, as in Salieri "killed" my chance of being the court composer.

of course.
and i meant that in AMADEUS, salieri supposedly poisoned mozart. and i wanted to know what you guys think of that. ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! your right! i get it now! salieri in the beginning of the movie says "truly have i killed you mozart!" he was talking about ruining mozart et cetera.... not an outright 'kill'. thanks again elfhelm!

Oh, and I just have to mention - sorry if this is OT! - I think someone mentioned movie scores in this thread... Last night I was listening to the soundtrack from "Gladiator" by Hans Zimmer. If you like the movie I daresay you'd love the soundtrack - very powerful. Anyone here familiar with it? Alqua

I'm not a fan of opera all that much but I do like classical compositions. It takes so much skill to put together things that big. Skill for the composer, the director, and the musicians playing the piece.

At the moment I'm very fond a piece that (I believe) is called Fantasia on British Sea Songs by sir Henry Wood.
I also have a liking for classical music with horns and drums. Does anyone know a few good pieces with both these instruments? I just wish I knew more of classical music. I don't have a head for names of pieces and composers. But then again, that goes for any kind of music.

I love movie soundtracks. That's really how I got interested in classical music...Hans Zimmer is one of my favorites...
I really like Dvorak, Rachmaninov, and Berlioz. (and I don't have to say Mozart is an absolute genius, seeing you all know that already ) |
