Then I figured out you were talking about languages, not people. ALSO: I really want someone to freak out when my characters stumble into Middle-Earth. They will a) look like humans, except their skin is green, b) be completely naked, and c) have been running toward the portal (they're trusting, remember?) and of course fallen over one another as they are tumbling down out of the portal. Any volunteers?

So I take it accidents don't happen either in that perfect world? Must come as a shock then, if one of them stubs their toe on an imperfect Middle-earthern rock. Could be very interesting to play against such characters. Also, I love the green skin idea. Maybe they can give rise to legends of green cobolds or something before our bunch meets up with them.

Ok, I think I'm going to bring in an OC from the Jurisdiction Series, which is a series of Sci Fi books that I've just gotten into and totally adore. Hope this works.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Name: Fearghan Age: 23 Physical Appearance: Fearghan is about 6'1, brown hair, brown eyes, rather on the skinny side - he'd look better with a few more pounds. He looks perfectly human except for his shoulder, which has adapted over the generations to include a sort of 'hinge' that allows him to throw things (e.g., spears) with great force. History: Fearghan is Nurail, a race of humans from a future in which humanity has reached out to the stars and evolved different customs and cultures according to the demands/resources of the planet they settled on. His culture is for the most part agrarian, and shares things in common with Scottish culture - in which each family has something known as a "weave," which is in some ways similar to a Scotch tartan. The weave, however, has more to it than that. The patterns and colors of the weave represent a family ballad - the music and the words. Each family has a "weave," and one person can only sing their own. Fearghan, however, is a Weaver, a sort of bittersweet spiritual leader of the Nurail. They're both loved and hated by their people. Loved because they are the only ones who can create new weaves, and the only ones who can sing ALL weaves, hated because they can manipulate emotion through the Weave. While this may not seem like much at first, Weavers (who become Weavers completely involuntarily, and it's often considered a curse by their family), become such in their early teen years - the most selfish times in their lives. Because of the power of their gift/curse, they rarely learn to behave themselves in the way that teenagers have to learn - they can get pretty much anything they want by manipulating emotion through the weave. As a whole, Weavers are selfish, egotistical, and manipulative - not good characteristics for someone with as much power as they have. The Jurisdiction Fleet, who for years have been trying to destroy the Nurail people, have consistently gone after Weavers, because of their ability to control the emotions of their people - even to the point of rallying them to battle. Fearghan has been on the run for years, and this has made him even more bitter against people as a whole. He's often not a pleasant person, and he's very powerful - not a good combination. That said, he's not evil - he's a human with too much power. And somewhere in there is a good person - he just needs to be found.
The green skin was Lewis's idea. Though Middle-Earth is riddled with different races, they are all about the same color. And your skin colors will be just as much of a shock for my twins. As to them creating legends... I'm hoping they can meet up with someone trustworthy who I don't have to play. They'll have to learn about clothes, etc. from somebody, and I really feel their arrival will be much more fun to write if shared with someone else. But if they hang around Middle-Earth a while before meeting the investigators, that's fine. Sounds like a dandy intro for your Hobbit, Earn, if you don't already have something planned for him (if you do, I promise I won't be offended...).
Out of curiosity I looked up if there was anything said about Dunlending religion. Apparently they might worship Eru, Morgoth or someone else entirely, which I think was the articles longwinded way of saying 'nobody knows.' I'll have to figure out what Rivailen believes. Midge again: Quote:
One question, though - does his weaving affect anyone who hears it, or only those belonging to the corresponding family? Midge: Quote:
I'm not familiar with the book, but Middle-earth is born from music made by the Ainur, so to speak. Your character will probably be sensitive to that musical aspect. But may be the world is in another pitch or tune than his homeworld, it would make sense that there is some difference between worlds. So that the many weaves your character knows, don't sound quite right in Middle-earth and barely work. That would mean your character will have to learn the right tunes, or become attuned to the weave of Middle-earth, before he can wield it to the same effect his skills have on his homeworld. That would give you something to build on, while enabling you to make use of his full powers eventually, just not right away.
I'm having trouble with Internet access at the moment. If the worst comes to the worst, I might not be able to post again until Tuesday. I've had Baru say what she needs to say to move the conversation onwards - I wish I could be fully part of this right now, but if I don't get proper access, I'll have to wait for a while.
Ack, sorry to hear you've got Internet problems. Baru's part of the story can wait until you're able to get back, don't worry! We won't rush ahead without you.
Yes. Anahera is now officially noticed.
Tathera is my invention and not from another canon. The Tathera portal is *not* near Baru, Beryn et al. so they won't be running into Ashkaio any time soon. His relevance will be revealed later.
Is Tanwendë an Elf?
It's that Hobbits are resillient people, otherwise poor Indigo may have fared likewise when confronted with two naked green teenagers.
Eggs! That made me laugh, Feawen. Beware of egg-thieves.
Yes. Pre-existing character of mine. She's only playing a minor role until Fearghan can meet up with the others. There's a character list in the first post - let me know if anything's not correct!
Let me know when you are ready for Indigo's entrance. My next post will shoot Lantie and Lur into Middle Earth.
I'm back!!!
And I've thought more about my Narnian character. I won't have her from Caspian II's time, I'll go closer to the movie's time and put her into the reign of Caspian IX, before he is murdered by his brother Miraz. She's not a canon character, but she's the grandmother of one - of Trufflehunter. Yes, she's a badger!
Oh, that's awesome. When in Narnia did Baru live?
