Re: ... You're so young!
Boy Scouts is a fricken waste of fricken time. Cinematography is where its at. That and snowboarding and skateboarding are they only worthwhile activities to do. Boy Scouts! Thats a joke!

Re: Dumbest thing you've done recently...
I was in the Girl Scouts for 7 years when I was younger. We had a great scout leader that took us camping quite a bit, so it never got boring. In fact scouting is what gave me my love of the outdoors which still is prominent in my life today. Some troops however, don't always have such cool leaders and it can become monotonous very quickly. I think it could be the same for the Boy Scouts.......maybe what the two of you needed was someone like Shan to be a part of your troop.
As for the dumbest thing that I did recently, I am still waiting......... |

Re: Dumbest thing you've done recently...
If I was a fricken (sorry for starting to use fricken a lot lately, just a new habbit) leader for scouts we'd be doing fricken pyrotechnics 24/7.

The thematic for this fall's camp is haunted house, but they'll think it's completely something else... so just imagine their faces when they'll see blood on the wall and discover bones!!! |

Re: Dumbest thing you've done recently...
Oooh...that sounds cool Shan. Nothing better than creeping people out when they are in the woods. I should know....we use to scare the **** out of this one leader when we would go camping. LOL, she was such easy target!

Re: Dumbest thing you've done recently...
I can just picture the Troop going out, only never to return...
Months later, another group of Scouts finds the film cannisters and video tapes. "Coming soon to a theatre near you THE SHAN WITCH PROJECT!" ================================================== ========= My Grandfather was a Scoutmaster, my Father was a Scoutmaster, and I was an Assistant Scout Master. I only made Star Scout (1 below Eagle) before our troop disbanded. We camped out, did litter drives, astronomy, swimming, fishing, hiking, knot tying, bridge building, tower raising, canoeing, first aid, life saving, etc. We didn't just sit around mumbling the Scout Oath! ================================================== ========= I did my pyrotechnics on the side... ================================================== ========= I still haven't done anything stupider than "fixing" my hot water heater. It shouldn't be long now... |

!!! That is terrible! Couldn't you have gone to another troop, or made Eagle on your own? We did much of the same thing in GS. We didn't do any astronomy though. I would have really enjoyed that one. Hmm, maybe there should be a scouting thread.... Shan. |

Re: Dumbest thing you've done recently...
We lived in Rural, Alabama, population 1,800 and falling.
We competed against Little League Baseball, the only important thing in Life. It was a sorry little papermill town, but we made the most of it. (Beautiful place to live! And lots finer people than I realized at the time.) By that time, it was not important to me to be an Eagle Scout. I had discovered Broadcasting! I wish now that I had done whatever I had to do to make Eagle! But I got to be a counselor at Cub Scout Camp and in Mobile I became an Assistant Scoutmaster. I give them money when I can, choke up when I see an honor guard taking down the Flag, am outraged that the Democratic Party and the Gore Campaign has failed to apologise for the way those Scouts were treated at the opening of their Convention, and am infuriated with the ongoing legal and financial assault on the Boy Scouts in this country. ================================================== ======== And posting this may be the dumbest thing I've done recently! |

Re: Dumbest thing you've done recently...
I haven't done anything really dumb lately...but this is an interesting conversation. I was only in Girl Scouts (which we call Girl Guides in Canada) for 2 years. But I now teach Survival/Safety/Camping skills at our Bible Camp. It's a hoot!

Re: Dumbest thing you've done recently...
Well, I finally did it, I burnt pretty much all the hair off my legs and arms. Its a really long story and do not have the time to tell it, but it was definetly smelling really bad after that. (burnt hair just smells awful!)
Lets just say my pyromaniac days may be coming closer and closer to there end, seeing as to how my parents were not to impressed with the trouble I caused. |

Or something practical...
...like a Tesla Coil! Or a big bank of high voltage capacitors made from bottles and saltwater! Or a windmill driven Wimshurst generator to charge them! Make lightning in your garage! Be the first on your block to electrocute a friend! I've forgotten the URL but look up Bill Beatty's Wierd Science page! That guy rocks! WARNING!!!! ONLY EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT IDIOTS ATTEMPT SUCH PROJECTS... |

Re: Wheeeeee!
I caught my hair on fire once.
I have rather longish dark curly hair, and was lighting the candles for a friend's b-day party. Of course I leaned over the countertop to do so, and the next thing I knew was that I had a huge flame going up the one side of my head. Just a bit was burned though, so I didn't have to cut my hair or anything. |

Re: Dumbest thing you've done recently...
The NUM. 1 DUMBEST THING DONE RECENTLY BY THE BULL!!!!!
Directions: 1. Pick a good period to have a bad time in. ie: Go to band and realize that a 6th grader took your trombone by accident. Plus get a bad headache. 2. Try to find a comforatable place to rest. ie: Lie down on the floor in the middle of the auditorium. 3. Go to sleep. ie: Fall into a deep sleep into half the next period. 4. Wake-up ie: Get waken up by a teacher that is bringing in students for an assembly. We also call this move "Get Busted". OUCH! |
