This is really annoying... I know it so well, but don't have any idea what the title or artist is except that it's Nicholas something

That guy's throwin' signs!! That's the sign for Westside L.A. - gang signs. Unbelieveable. I don't think I can guess the artist right now though; you guys are way better at it than am I. I'm so glad I started this thread; I really really enjoy seeing all the art and learning new art history.

*snerk* That was my first impression too! He even has the whole cocky look going on. Hint: late 15th century Italian.

I knew it was something like "Man in a red cap", but do you know how many versions of this there are? It seems like every Renaissance artist did one at some point. I guess red hats were in vogue or something. This one's by Botticelli, "Portrait of a young man".

Hey, is that... yes, it is! That's a fragment of the 'Lam Gods' by the brothers Van Eyck. The fragment is God.

You'll have to forgive me that I do not know the English name of the painting but it is a Belgian painting after all.

Well, I had to look a few things up, but you're right! In English we call it the 'Ghent Altarpiece', and I thought it was just by Jan van Eyck, but as you said it's by him and his brother Hubert. Thanks for telling me the real name! I like it because of the awesome detail.

Now it's your turn...
