Its by Raphael, "Philosophy" (School of Athens) its in the Vatican Palace in Italy. In the pope's private chamber where he heard audiences and such like. From 1509-1511 was when he started and finished.... *is happy* I got that off the top of me head! Edit: I cant spell worth crap.

 That's the sign for Westside L.A. - gang signs. Unbelieveable. I don't think I can guess the artist right now though; you guys are way better at it than am I. I'm so glad I started this thread; I really really enjoy seeing all the art and learning new art history.

I knew it was something like "Man in a red cap", but do you know how many versions of this there are? It seems like every Renaissance artist did one at some point. I guess red hats were in vogue or something.

Hey, is that... yes, it is! That's a fragment of the 'Lam Gods' by the brothers Van Eyck. The fragment is God.
You'll have to forgive me that I do not know the English name of the painting but it is a Belgian painting after all.

Well, I had to look a few things up, but you're right! In English we call it the 'Ghent Altarpiece', and I thought it was just by Jan van Eyck, but as you said it's by him and his brother Hubert. Thanks for telling me the real name! I like it because of the awesome detail.
