I'll have a go in this thread too.
What were the names of the two trees in Gondolin made by Turgon? Edit: ops, forgot to answer. Anar and Isil?

Shouldn't you answer Ornel*rë Mistë's question first?

Anar and Isil are Quenya names, but I was thinking of two others, not based on Sindarin (Anor, Ithil). Damn, I always make shaky questions.
EDIT: Yes artanis, Rana was the moon.

I think it was the Vanyar who used the names Anar and Isil?

Vassa for the sun? (I had to look for it in the Silmarillion; but it was worth it! )

Yes, Radagast (though it only has one s). But since you both named one, who goes?
As for the Vanyar naming the Sun and Moon Anar and Isil, I have no idea. The names are close to Sindarin, and the Vanyar all stayed in Aman. And if the Noldor brought their names for them, then the Vanyarin and Sindarin names couldn't be based on each other, or could they?

Anor and Isil are Quenya names for the sun and the moon. I have no idea which one was first of Anor and Anar (or ithil and isil), but both are at least based on the same stem NAR1.
I would guess that Anor was first, and then the Sindar borrowed it, though the opposit is of course possible too. Or it may be a strange coinsidence... Edit: I just realized that only ANÁR is mentioned as a stem in Etym, which would support my theory that Anar was first... As for wether it was Vanyarin Q or Noldorin Q, I don't know.

Radagast should go next imo, he solved the last part of Ornel*rë Mistë's questions.
