Yes - to be a little more precise, 4 times every 28 years. Until we get the years ending in '00' (like 2100, 2200, etc) which are NOT Leap Years (unlike 2000, which was - and 2400, which will be). But even then - it's every 7 years on average.

Yes, there's a nice 28 year cycle there

I made a nice table for myself of years that could reuse the same calendar
Only on paper, but it could be made in Excel as well, with different colors for Jan 1st on different days of the week. There's a pattern to it, of course, as part of that 28 year cycle.

I stopped it at around 2035, not because I think that's when the world will end (nor in 2012), but because that was the end of the piece of paper

Speaking of 2012, that movie didnt help things I think. I don't think the world with fall apart and flood, but I'm pretty sure hell will break loose with the people that do believe it'll end.

I mean will it really? They said the world as we knew it would end in 2000 because everything would shut down. That sure didn't happen.

Ok I'm gonna shut up before I offend someone or get a fight going.

Mostly I suppose because people took precautions and checked and made sure the computer systems could handle the new digits. And people won't even need to cause their own disasters to have something happen in 2012 that can count as the end of the world. Take the current flood disaster in the Pakistan region or the heavy fires in Russia just for starters. Rebuilding and repairing is going to take years. Who needs an whole ending of the world, these 'little' disasters should count aplenty already.

I think that y2k will help with 2012; people will remember how it turned out to be a bunch of hogwash, and be more reserved in their response to 2012. Or at least I hope so...

OK - here's snopes.com : http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/trivia/august.asp
as regards August 2010. Turns out they must read the 'Moot, huh?

As regards 2012, may I point out that the world ends every day for some people. It shall end one day for us all. Therefore, the person who is telling us that the world shall end has, perhaps inadverdantly, told the truth.

We all get to the same end whether en masse or individually. No argument.

True enough, and a "live everyday as if it were you last" attitude is healthy, whether its a sober memento mori or a bon-vivant attempt to live life to the fullest. It's just that these sorts of scares tend to result in a fair amount of hysteria, which is decidedly unhealthy.

The world has ended so many times already .

I never liked the "live like you're going to die tomorrow" attitude. Always seemed an excuse for doing whatever you liked. When the Black Plague hit Europe people did exactly that: lived like they were dying, and they were! It was gruesome and terrible...meaning: both the plague and the way they "lived" their last hours. I'm all for memento mori, but I hardly think that calls one to the local brothel .

The way I remember my eventual death is this: Imagine myself on my deathbed, looking back at my life. What would I be pleased with? What would I have done differently?

I do want to eat pizza as often as I like. I want to spend a lot of time playing video games and having fun with my friends. I do not want to spend my life being fat, sick, imprisoned, poor, etc. It's fun to be crazy sometimes, but I don't want my other days to be miserable because of it.

To me, awareness of death means that I don't have to worry about things that don't matter, and also that I want to cherish my life while I have it and take steps to improve it.

Famous Last Words?

I was just wondering where to post this tragic little item about an apparent suicide, thinking it was too morbid for the cafe...

Quote:
The lead singer of a British pop trio climbed a telecommunications mast behind the main stage at a Belgian rock festival and leaped to his death in the parking lot below, police said Saturday.
The name of his band was "Ou Est Le Swimming Pool?"

Inked has a very good point there

And they way I see it, what doesn't kill me makes me stronger

Or will kill me later :P

Greymouser,Did he do that in front of the fans? That would keep me from going to that partitular festival again :/

I would assume the tower and parking lot were away from the stage.

The point for me, and I really chastised myself for being unable to control my laughter, is that the name of the band translates as "Where's the Swimming Pool?"

So, last words....

No, apparently it really was suicide. The news article in Dutch didn't mention a lot of people having seen it, so I doubt there were many people around in the first place. It was the second death at that festival by the way, earlier the father of a drummer of a band (different band) had a heart attack on the premises.

So far they think that an accident with stage diving earlier, in which a fan was heavily injured, may have led to the suicide. It sure was a dramatic Pukkelpop festival this year.

Gack, first day of school as a business major. Lets see if I can hack it. I'm nervous and excited... for the last three years I've had classes with teachers that I've seen every day for years, in the same classrooms, and with lots of constants like choir, music theory, my voice teacher, concert attendance, etc.

Now it's all weird and stuff. O_o Wish me luck!
