That might have been related to 9/11 or a terrorist threat then. Some communities have gone overboard. In New Jersey there are no armed guards or anything - and sometimes it makes me nervous - since the terrorists made their home in NJ.

I'm not sure how the murder rate compares. We have a lot more major cities though - and a murder rate is generally always higher in a city.

We have a lot of people in jail - but that isn't for violent crimes - it's because of the stupid "three strike your out" laws and the drug laws.

I'm sure people think that you just see murders where ever you go in the US. I've never even seen an arrest in NY - let alone a murder.
