Keith's Thanksgiving Riddle
or
How Do You Handle A Hungry Hobbit

Hungry hobbits in the fern
hoping for some food that's warm
asked of Gollum for his aid
to hunt some meat for them this day.
"Always helpful" is his motto
seeking game he left the grotto.
Shortly he returned with meat
to give to hobbits for to eat.
Even though they're small and bony
Smeagol caught a brace of _______.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of y'all (American or not).....

We lost the bridge, we lost the hall.
The western water was up to the wall.
The enemy bested us in a rout.
Our final words were “we can’t get out!”

Yes, except that Balin was already toast at that point in time. good job Cass!

It’s black and tall and crowned with stones.
It was once the scene of vengeful blows.
Empty and barren where no grass grows.
A cheerless place where no man goes.

The text describes the Death Down as being "...black, tall and stony..." and you are correct with your assumption! Thanks for guessing Beor.

Ebony orb, deep and black.
Coughed up out of ruin's wrack.
Where forgotten people make their home,
and gather at the trysting stone.

Hi guys! I've returned to riddling.

I've been thinking about all those riddles I wrote a year or so ago. They aren't really riddles at all; rather little poemy things about obscure LotR objects. So, I've decided to try a new angle of riddling. This is supposed to be tricky; but it's about an element of LotR everyone knows.

On a black stem, a silver flower
opens, but when it grows in power
crushed underfoot its crownéd glory dies,
until in golden sunset it will arise.

Welcome back Elf Girl. I was hoping you would return one day.
As to your riddle, how about the House of Isildur as an opening guess?
