Well, I hope you're happy with the college.

If they handed me a 5 pound bar of gold at the end of every semester, I would never consent to so much supervision. The idea of paying for the privilege boggles my mind.

That's too bad, I've done a lot better in school since I moved off campus.

*sighs* I would like to live on campus again. Though I love my own little room and view very much, but I miss always having people around. Cooking with others, partying, that sort of stuff.

They want us for our show three hours early on Saturday.

Yeah? Well, hold your breath, fellas. I ain't comin'. Whatever dandy idea you have for putting in or taking out a dance number, or giving even more of us Javier Bardem's wigs, or recasting the leads in the 2nd act, everyone will be better off if I get more R&R before facing it.

Argh! I'm using 4 different dictionairies, a specialist term finder, a Japanese lawbook and wikipedia and there are still characters that do not have a translation, so I'm having to make those up as I go... Here I was thinking I would finish the translating of characters this week. And I haven't even started on the classical texts yet... Hmm, oh well, let's do my assignment for tomorrow first.

The education we get here is invaluable. I've talked about it a little bit before; if you want to see the whole curriculum...

It's a very unique curriculum, basically a crash course in Western thought up until the twentieth century. We also use the socratic method, which is (or at least can be) a major bonus. All in all, there's enough good here, that I'm willing to put up with a lot of bad.

I've seen the curriculum. For my taste, most of that should have been handled long before college age, and I would never see a doctor or other scientist who had been "trained" in the texts on this list.

But it would be a fun way to spend some time, and you're only young once.

I am rather stressed out at the moment due to several things, and today I let it get to me and I lost my cool for a second. -_-

Today at my voice lesson my teacher did the annoying thing she does sometimes where, when we've just made a change, she goes, "Okay, how did that feel?"

and I answered, "it felt more open, but I think it made my throat hurt a little--it felt kind of scratchy."

to which she replied in exasperation, "It hurt? Anthony... why do you say these things?!"

To which, today, I finally lost it and just snapped back, "Well then don't ask me how it felt if you don't really want to know."

Which she ignored and then went back to talking technique. I swear, I love the woman, but holy crap IF YOU ASK ME HOW IT FELT I'M GOING TO BE HONEST. I'm -supposed- to tell you if it hurts because that means I'm doing something wrong... and you're supposed to help me fix that. You know, as my voice -teacher-...

She's used to students being cowed by her frown, and I know the other students tend to bow before her and do whatever it takes to placate her. But... screw that. She and I get into it all of the time, although this was the first time I actually snapped at her like that. It's not that I think I know more than she does or I'm trying to prove her wrong... she seems to dislike me asking 'too many' questions about voice and hates it if I say changing something in my technique made my throat hurt.

Love her to bits, but I'm going to be super excited to get a new teacher next semester. Also her memory is terrrrrrrible. O.o She will literally ask me things three times, even within the same lesson. Like what song I want to sing for NATS, or what I'm going to sing for seminar that week. Ack!

I don't think you could do Descartes Meditations on First Philosophy long before college age. Maybe, senior year of high school, but not before.

I do agree with you, though. I think a lot of these classical texts should be an important factor in primary and secondary education. Unfortunately, you don't find that happening very much these days, so it's time to supplement.

Funny you mention that about doctors, though; a lot of students go into medicine after this program. Don't ask me why; I don't really see much connection, but there it is. *shrug*

Sheesh what is it with people and their lack of work ethics these days?! If you're graduated, if you're old enough to sign contracts, you can damn well take up your responsibility for crying out loud. Fne.

Some people need to take the feelings of others more in account. Especially if you are supposed to be a student advisor.

Okay, I'm just getting madder.

I have a friend, whose toes I've been dragging out of the fire all semester. I mean, I'm doing emergency study sessions before tests at least once a week. Waking up early, staying up late. Including last night/this morning. And I had this person run an errand for me, because I'm just flattened today, and it seemed like a reasonable tie-in to other stuff they were doing.

Stuck in traffic. I got a whiny call... "I'm stuck in traffic. I'll be late to my thing."

And I felt really terrible, until I thought, "You know, if I had back HALF the time I've spent on this person's emergencies, just in the last 2 months, I'd have like, a weeklong spa vacation. In Hawaii." And that's not counting borrowing my car, etc. So my sympathy has evaporated. Darn.

it's stunning how i change if i have to be in the same room with my mother (and other people i can't relate with). XD i probably seem quite rude; but damn, i can't stand the babbling, her ways, her looks. it's strange, but that's the way it is. not sad or anything, just.. interesting.

fortunately she'll be gone by the time i get back from school tomorrow. *laughs*

Sounds like my sister-in-law ...

I've had to set some very firm boundaries with her, and after today, they're getting even firmer ...

It's gotten to the point where every time she calls, I wonder how she's going to try to use me And she's getting trickier about it, too - she'll ask a favor that I'll decide to grant, and then she adds on to it. I get so tired of it I'm tired of constantly saying no (I don't think it's healthy for either one of us for the favors to be so continually and extremely one-sided, so I've been saying "no" more often, esp. because they're often because she's late AGAIN, or forgot to write down something AGAIN).

Exactly. There's a time when all those approving murmers of "Isn't she so responsible? What a good girl." start to manifest as "Don't bother asking. We'll just drop by and (drop off the kids, borrow the car, grab a bite to eat...)"

grr.

I'm having a terrible time. At least there are some things that support me, but all the rest seems to be gone. I wonder if it ever was there in the first place.
I'll try to get a grip now and brighten up, but I needed to get this of my chest. Sorry.

*HUUUUUUUUUUGS!!!!!!!!!* love you.

I'm a little disappointed in myself, right now. The singing competition is about a month away now, and I just... I'm not happy. I know my music, I could go and compete right this minute (you know... after changing and putting on nicer shoes and what not ) and probably do better than I ever could have done last semester.

But... argh! There are a million little nit-picky things that I want to do, and am capable of doing, but that are just too much for me to put together all at once!!!! I feel like I could sing these songs SO MUCH BETTER if I could just... I don't even know. It's too much to work all at once.

I need to stand up just a little straighter, keep my breath supported 100% of the time, make sure I'm hitting every pitch dead-on in the middle instead of hovering on the outside edges some times, keep a good balance of light and dark coloring in my voice, let my breath drop low into my lungs, but let the words come from the very tip of my tongue instead of the back of my mouth, and of course make sure I'm making the right vowels... Especially my French piece is giving me trouble. Like I'll make an 'oo' instead of an 'oh' or get vowel sounds flipped around.

Then of course after all of that, I have to actually emote the song. I know I sound a million times better when I can get all of that working, plus add the emoting, but it's so rare... I just can't do it all at once. But I feel like I should be able to.

I feel like... I'm in the middle of the ocean, and there's an island ahead of me and I only have so much time to reach that island if I want to win this race. I know I'll reach the island eventually, but I think I can win, and I want to so I have to push harder to get there.

I don't even mean winning the competition. There are other students at my school much better than I am, and they're singing in the same category. I don't want to win the actual competition, but I want to know that I gave my absolute 100% EVERYTHING to being as good as I could be.

***(((((((((HUGGLE))))))))***

We're here for you Mari.

I have something funny to say: I have a Studies of Religions class, and there is a very intelligent young man in it. I mean, VERY smart when it comes to religious practices as well as politics. But he couldnt tell an ant from his own *** hole, when it comes to biology. He seems (or rather, seemed) to think he knew alot about Marine Zoology as well, but alas, he needed to be corrected. I admit that I have shoved my foot deep into my mouth on more then one occasion, but this guy really takes the cake. I wondered if he had ever even TAKEN a biology course. In either case, he didnt want to be corrected and proceeded to scoff and say things like "Well, you obviously dont pay attention in class, or read the book at all." (BTW, this was in the middle of the class, but I had simply whispered to him, while he shouts to the world). He tried to point out falacies in what I had said, then when I corrested him again he proceeded to try and poke holes in the taxonomic classification that he was using so falsley. He had been trying to claim that nudibranchs (he used "sea slug") were Annelids and not molluscs at all. I whispered to him that they were, he came back with the above statement, then we exchanged an extremely angry conversation. Even using the word "slug" he claimed that they were not molluscs. So I walked him along their classification backwords, asking him if Heterobranchia (the superorder above Nudibranchia) were all worms. They're GASTROPODS for heaven's sake! My goodness, the guy just would not let it go. It ended up in the hallway, where the idiot was almost ready to FIGHT! This is college, not elementary school. Accept it when your wrong, get the right information, and MOVE ON. It's called the advancement of knowledge, douche.

Another great example of the fact that smart doesn't equal wise, or even bright in some cases....

And thanks for the hugs you two, I really can use them.
