I can definitely see him on the drums!

And I even saw this big kind of folk timpini-type drum today that would just be a total kick to have, but alas, too expensive!!!

Für Elise is very pretty, and really not hard to play at all - keep at it Pieces don't have to be difficult to be beautiful - some of my favorite pieces of Chopin are very simple (well, relatively simple at least...)

My lovely harp has 3 octaves plus 4 more notes at the top, so 26 strings. It comes up to about mid-chest on me (I'm fairly tall) so it's pretty transportable. Not like a flute or anything but not bad, esp. compared to my mom's big honkin' full-sized lever harp (the kind you see in orchestras).

(I think that I'll prob. inherit that harp one day, since I'm the only one of the kids that plays, and honestly, I wouldn't know what to do with it!! I mean, it rather dominates a room ... But it's really nice to play ... aw, heck, I'd prob. keep it! But my mom says that when a string pops on that thing, it's enough to give you a heart attack! It's bad enough when a string pops on my little harp - I can't even imagine it popping on Big Bertha! She says it's loud enough to wake her up at night, and she's upstairs and the harp is downstairs.)

edit - I just remembered that my harp is in the picture of me on the picture thread - you can see it behind me, over my shoulder.

'tis a generally good day to be me...

I woke up feeling reasonably rested this morning, even though I only got four hours of sleep on Wednesday and five last night, I figured out how some theory stuff worked that had been bugging the crap out of me, I'm reasonably pleased with my progress in sight singing... which is allowing me to now learn more pieces of music than I ever have before... and I'm in two awesome choirs.

I'm also going to a yoga class with two of my female friends tonight... both I know from different music classes.

Also one of them wants me to do the karaoke version of 'The Song That Goes Like This' from Spamalot with her . She's... a lot better than I am, tho' .

Also being out to the four people that I'm around a lot is soooo incredibly relaxing. My sisters, one's boyfriend, and then a friend I've known for years.

Tomorrow, though, is going to be stresssssful. >.>

Today I got a chance to play around very briefly with the recording studio at my university. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WE HAD ONE! *squEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!*

So since I've promised a few people a recording of my voice, this is what I did... keep in mind, I'm totally unwarmed up, so on that one high note where I would normally flip into head voice and it would be fairly powerful, I didn't... quite make it . I really sing better when I'm warmed up... also I don't even know this song that well, it was just the first thing that popped into my head.

THIS IS SO FRIGGIN' KEWWWWWWWWWL!!!

Lovely, Tessar. Nice clear tone. I like that piece for you, too. Needs a little more breath support, but you know that.

My happy for today is new plants for my planters. I love new seasons.

Yes, breath support is something that I've actually gotten considerably better at...

Before I started with my new teacher, my support was so poor that I couldn't really even hit that note ever... much less with the power that I (typically) can now... of course like I said, I totally blew it that time around .

VIVA LA E4!!!!!

I'm quite happy, because I'm typically connecting full-voice up to about an F4 these days... if I can just work in that G/A4, I'll be set for just about anything I want to sing, range-wise. Of course that's not even getting into all of the actual -musical- aspects... but whatever

My annual Happy Moon Festival (aka Mid-Autumn Festival) post.

One of the biggest holidays of the Chinese Calendar, it most resembles Thanksgiving. Originally a harvest fest, it's now an event for sitting around outside with family and friends, barbecuing and watching the full moon.

As you cruise the streets, almost every house and shop has a barbecue grill outside, with people sitting around chatting and eating, and kids playing with sparklers- everyone says hello and invites you to sit down and eat. Wonderful holiday, especially since, as it fell on a Tuesday, we had a four-day long weekend.

So, Happy Moon Festival, everyone!

Good to finally hear you! Sounds great!

My happy thing: I got a part-time job! I'm not going to make a lot of money and I have to walk around on high heels which I hate and which will mame my feet for ever, but I finally get to work in a hotel, which is good since I want to go to a hotelschool after I finish Japanese. Yay!

I got to go home today at 12:00 instead of 3, and I got to get my sister's birthday gift, and I sounded totally faaaaabulous this morning when I was singing, and I HAVE SO MUCH TIME TO DO MY HOMEWORK TODAY.

omg.

I also get to go to yoga tonight with a friend, and she's so pretty, and sweet, and I love her into little tiny bits because we talk about fun stuff like how bad Charlotte Church's technique was even if she was really little. YAY VOICE MAJORS ^_^.

Ummm...
It's the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, which is adjusted every few years to bring it back into line with the Solar Calendar, so it's always roughly tied to the Equinox (last year they had to have two Eighth Months to bring the calendars back into sync, so the Festival was pushed into October.)

I found out a really cool way to keep my cats out of the trash after I have sushi, (I just thought you guys would get a kick out of this) i use the leftover wasabi and line the lip of the can with it. The little yellow cat tried to get into it and got some on her paws and licked it. I have never seen a cat run and do somersaults like her!!
