I feel the same, Empress. I've always been very mature for my age, but at the same time I'm one of the most child-like people I know. I think there's a difference between child-like and child-ish.

Oh yeah? Wow... that's interesting then!
When do you start school? At what age, I mean? We usually start at 5 I think... I started when I was 4 and I graduated high school when I was 17 and then I went to college right away... so ... 4 years later.. I'm turning 22 lol... How does it work there? Edit: Yeah, I agree katya... a big different between those two.. and I'm sure it has something to do with emotional maturity level... Which is why I prefer older men anyway

I graduated high school at 18 and I have a feeling I'm going to be in college a lot longer than 4 years. Well, at least 5. I guess I haven't been taking as many classes as I should.
Emotional maturity is big (something my mother definitely hasn't mastered yet). Child-like I think has something to do with a sense of wonder and love, and a bit of naivety. I also like older men, and in fact most of my friends are at least a few years older than me. |

2-4: pre-school (private by the way Sis, I asked my mum, but very cheap since it wasn't professional )
4-6: kindergarten (1st and 2nd grade) 6-12: elementary (3rd to 8th grade) 12-18: secondary 18-21/22/23: Bacherlor 21/22-23/24/25: Masters Here it's almost impossible to get a job with Ba alone. Without a Ma employers think you don't want it enough. Apparently it's reversed in the UK.

Yeah, definitely on the emotional maturity...
My brother was in college for 5 years, but that's because he changed majors and so he couldn't fit all the classes he needed into the rest of the typical time there... I should have changed majors.. I don't really know what I want to do with mine for a permanent job... Ohhh I see, Mari.. yeah, well if we all went for Masters then we'd be older too lol... but they're not required in the US or UK really unless you want certain jobs... I just needed to get out of school immediately. I mean, I'm smart and I got great grades, but I was so tired of it..

I have a high Emotional Quotient according to some semi-professional test I took from a career-builder-thingy. It got me a place in the semi-finals at the end of October
Is the EQ what you mean with emotional maturity, or is that yet a different sort of thing?

For teachers I've heard it's better not to get your masters right away. No one wants to hire you because they have to pay you more if you have your masters. It's better if you get it after you get hired and get tenure and whatnot.
Yes, that's pretty much what E.Q. is. |

Well, colleges are different. I think you would definitely need a masters. But, you don't need to be certified as a teacher. I was going to go that route at first and my major was straight physics.

Nah, I like my current studies way too much ^_^ Katya, what age-group would you like to teach? Do you know yet?

I'm doing secondary. Primarily high school I think but I will probably do middle school too. I like elementary, but I don't think I am really right for it. I thought about college too, but I really want to do high school. I think k-12 (especially elementary) is more about teaching and helping kids grow up and college is more teaching a particular subject matter.

Cool! You know, you can actually go to a random high school and ask if you can sit in, because you are interested in teaching the class. If it is a nice high school, they'll even let you teach a few classes (after due preparation and stuff of course! ).
My sister did a few sit ins and I taught secondary school kids for 2 days. It taught me that I never ever want to teach secondary school kids in a classroom environment. Tutoring was fun though. I really like teaching adults. You could even (if you wanted to try it) try and find a school for adults that teaches Japanese and be a teacher for a day there. Eli Ann, that sounds nice. How old are you now? Can you tutor yet?

I don't think there's anywhere where they teach Japanese around here, be it for little kids or adults or anything. Sit ins sound fun though. I should go to the high school one of these days. I'm starting to look forward to student teaching, but I don't know when that will be.
