Hehe, what did your dad answer?
Puck tends to mostly bite my fingers and my slippers (he loves shoes, especially smelly ones, hence the slippers which I wear bare feet) and he uses my hocker as a scratchpole instead of the 3 scratchpoles that are there for that purpose. (Three because I got gifts from people who didn't consider I might get one for them myself ![]()

My dad is rather anti-cat, so having a kitty is a new thing for me.
I'm surprised at how loving this cat is. She'll start purring if you just stand near her. If I pick her up, a lot of the time, she'll nuzzle my face with her little nose, or paw at my cheeks or nose with her little paw. I kind of always thought cats were more aloof, tolerating being loved on. Cricket hasn't really done much biting, but your kitties sound super cute, Mari! ![]()

Tortoiseshells! Small tortoiseshells! Woohoo! I saw my first tortoiseshell!
![]() ![]() They used to be so common around here but I have never seen a live one until now. It's been on my want-to-see-butterfly-list for years. Now there were suddenly NINE on the budleia bushes, woohoo! Go butterflies! ![]() I'm going to calm down now.

It looks gloriously.
![]() Kleine vos in Dutch. The name may not mean much but you probably recognise the butterfly when you see it. It's a quintessential butterfly.

It's a really pretty one!
It's Norwegian name means Nettle Butterfly - there seemed to be some mention of nettles on that Dutch page as well ...

That's cool, to see more of them making an appearance after a long absence.
![]() Yes Varna, nettles are involved. It's one of the species of plants on which the small tortoiseshell lays eggs. Nettle butterfly would be a very spot-on name indeed. It's always interesting to see how a butterfly is called in different languages. Here we have a butterfly named in English, Dutch and Norwegian for different characteristics: colour in dutch ('small fox') pattern in English ('tortoiseshell') and breeding plants in Norwegian ('nettle butterfly'). Language can be cool indeed. ![]() Curiously, nettles have just appeared this year in the garden, and I wonder whether that's tied to the small toirtoiseshell sudden re-emergence. It's going to be a difficult decision though, we want to keep them for the butterflies, but they're in a bad spot and mum wants them gone as they're stinging nettles, but they don't respond to relocation well. Darn.

No, never participated. I like looking at them and recognise a few species, but that's it.

She's about 3 months, according to the vet.
![]() This is what she looks like when she's fallen asleep in her food bowl. ![]()

I was really excited when she didn't wake up in the middle. Animals have a slightly annoying habit of ruining completely adorable pictures by noticing the fuss you're making, even if it's not really that much of a fuss!

Successful Summer! Set out to get my two younger boys swimming. We got a late start, and had to miss two weeks straight in early August - but they started progressing quickly, especially the past couple weeks. Then this weekend they just went nuts - starting to jump into the deep end for the first time Saturday. They've ended up both really able to swim - jumping in the deep end, able to swim across the width of the pool, etc.
We were able to just close out the summer swimming session by attending 3 consecutive swims today - spending about 3 hours in the water! So glad we were able to do it. ![]()
