Maybe the flashes Frodo sees in the night are little fireflies over the swamp. Fireflies or flashy ghosts, or something.

no...ok, being fair and honest, i trusted too much to the fact that it was a quote, so, i should've given you when it happens...when they're travelling with aragorn, then strider, on the way to rivendell, before weathertop...
