hello, I haven't posted here yet, so I'll give a backgroung on my relationship with muslims. I am obsessed with Egypt, and got to go there last year. And, I have a friend who saw the Soudi Ambassador get knocked over in the Embassy.

In that case, I have to say there is cultural differences and there's stupidity. It doesn't surprise me this happened in Sudan.

Here in the Netherlands a crazy politician (Geert Wilders for those of you knowledgeable) announced that he is going to make a movie on why the Koran can be equaled to Mein Kampf in that they both encourage racism, fasicism, radicalism and extremism etc.
How do you get the international Muslim community pissed off? Weeell, this would certainly work! It makes me wonder why we are looking at the Muslim faith this way and try to make it into a criminal faith, while Muslims are able to keep their hands of Christianity? Wilders: Quotes "I don't like the fact that two Muslims will soon be sitting here as members of the Upper House" "If Muslims want to stay in Holland they must tear out half of the Koran and throw it away" In the last parliamentary election Wilders won nine seats. In the meantime support for him has grown while the rest of those in politics have no response to this. In other countries we can also see the rise of politicians who make tough statements against Muslims to win votes. Is this a signal of an international trend and what is the reason for this? Can we speak of the rise of Islamophobia as a new form of racism? Is there a problem between the "Lonsdale Youth" [Translator's note: Londsdale is a clothing brand which has become synonymous right wing extremist groups]and the increasing visibility of neo Nazi groups? What is the truth about the "tsunami of Islamization"? What is the truth about the "radicalization" and "criminalization" of Muslim youth? http://www.militantislammonitor.org/article/id/2820 This is on a (Islamic) movement in the Netherlands against radical Islam. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle2426314.ece

Nice one BJ.
Sad to see Holland has its fair share of numpties like the rest of us. And such a pointless lather about the goddam teddy bear story. You'd think someone wanted us to hate muslims or something... |

Well, Gaffer, I suppose you will be relieved to learn:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle2966023.ece that they call the wind sharia and its blowing North pretty heartily.

Apparently there are rioters calling for her to be executed.
It makes it tough to teach cultural sensitivity when people behave like rabid wolves. Americans, for one, get a soundbite that says, "More nutty crowds. Doesn't anyone over there get up and go to work in the morning?"

[b]Mari[\b], just to let you know, Muslims don't keep their hands off of Christianity. Throughout the Middle East, Christians are enduring horrible persecution at Muslim hands, and there are references in the Koran to the need to kill Christians and Jews that don't pay the jizya tax. Even in supposedly moderate countries like Turkey, there is persecution.
I just finished writing a ten page paper about the modern persecution of Christians in Egypt. Just bringing you up to speed .

As I understood it, there were a lot of rumors going on what really happened in that classroom and the people protesting probably heard the version in which the bear wasn't named after a boy, but in which the teacher brought in the bear and said it was Mohammed and that they would have to take good care of him.
(one could argue that in this version she is telling them to nurture their faith in Muhammed and is thus encouraging Islam, but that aside) So they are very upset that someone dared make the kids see a bear as their holy person. Different versions, different opinions.

Forget ridiculing . . . Converts from Islam to Christianity are getting tortured and killed for their religious beliefs.
