Btw Acally, the name Asagai sounds somewhat Norse to me. I wouldn't suppose there's anything viking-ish in the book?

Eärniel, I googled Stad Amsterdam and its a fine ship! I wonder whether it visited Stockholm during the Tall Ship's Race last time it was held here? Not that I were in town to see the ships anyway...

Stad Amsterdam not an East-Indiaman though

Five years ago, we northerners sent an East-Indiaman for real to Australia. Here I can be seen standing on that ship as well, wind in bushy hair and everything. (This pic is not taken in Australia either, for the record

It's not pretending to be one either, it's a modern clipper, with even a steel hull if I'm not mistaken. The ship's currently loaded with scientists, research equipment and a camera crew to follow the Beagle's journey and make a TV series of it while they're at it. (A very interesting TV series, by the way.) I don't think anyone will be tempted to try all that in an authentic East-Indiaman.

No. Takes place in a fantasy world. Although like a lot of authors I borrowed a name from Beowulf

got married in december, had the first celebration in june. the next one is in morocco in september this year.
