Let me make a try at riddling...

Who was this lady?

O lady fair with long hair loose
Who stole a man from his rightful spouse

These lovers have names. I will wager that Earniel could tell you who they are.

I would have the riddles harder.
This one isn't necessarily an easy one, is it? The solver has to pick up on the unbent back and always sleeping outside angles to discover their species. Plus, you have to go to the books to discover the names. (Except for Earniel, our resident Ent expert, of course. She needs no book, lol. ).

I dunno. What do you other Riddlers think?

Lobelia is indeed the distant relation (Bilbo's cousin-in-law), inferred by the poem. She was twice frustrated from acquiring Bag End. She redeemed her reputation during the War of the Ring by not giving in to the Ruffians, and when she died she left her estate to help repair the damage that they caused.

Good one, Gordis!

Is it Arwen Evenstar?

(for those Aragorn=Eowyn fans)

So, it's not Rapunzel, eh? How about Galadriel? She has some loose hair in these tales.

Well I will give you a hint: it is not from LOTR.
But t is a very well known story, told at length.
Actually I thought it would be easy.....

I was not aware that Turin had a spouse...other than Nienor herself So, it is not about them.

The man in the riddle was married quite officially, but always turned towards... another lady. As a result, his wife abandoned him. As far as I know, this situation was unique in all Tolkien's writings.

Come on - there is a lot of hints already!

The sea?

'Erendis, you're a fine girl
What a good wife you would be
But my love, my life, my lady
Is the sea'

As for the Turin guess, any other woman would have been a more rightful spouse than the sister he wed, so the guess makes some bit of sense.

You are almost there, DPR - have another look in the text and find the other lady that Erendis blamed

Uh... she was fair... ... I just can't see any elves doing that... although that whole big deal with Feanor didn't speak too well for nobleness...

Hmm. A woman...

No dice. I'm lost.

While we're on this little love fest, try this one out...

Name the Lovers

While perhaps not quite the strongest love, this likely
was the longest love in all of Middle Earth.

I reckon it could be up for debate, but those are the two I was thinking of. They hooked up pretty quickly in the First Age of the Sun.

Even so, Fangorn & Fimbrethil were around at about the same time. They may have tied twigs under the stars ere ever the Noldor returned to Beleriand. Who can say for sure? The awakening of the Ents is not noted by a specific date.
