I have Monteverdi's 1610 Vespers ripped to my computer after I borrowed the CD from a professor. I like them -- they're very relaxing.

I like Byrd and Palestrina, but there's something about their music that keeps me away of them: there's too much sounds at the same time!
I get too tired when listening to poliphonic music to have it frequently...

Got lots of Bach's organ music (all of preludes and fugues-my favs!), and Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, which I liked immensely.

I watched last week Les Troyens (second time). Definitely it's a superb opera. I liked especially the first two acts, with Cassandra.

I didn't really used to like Bach that much but I'm really starting to fall in love recently! I've been breakin' out that good old easy Bach piano music and all. I'd *love* someday to go and hear some fugues on a real, huge pipe organ. Ah, that would be awesome. (Somehow my out of tune little piano just doesn't do the music justice.^^; )

Ah! I'm replying ot my own post *again*! I guess that just means that the threads aren't active enough. It's your faults.
I know a couple of you mentioned Carmina Burana. I just got back from watching and hearing it for the first time. The Sault Symphony Orchestra had a concert at my school and I got dragged to it (little did I know they were playing actually *good* music). Oh my God, the lyrics are so racy! I had to laugh a little, and the soloists were really funny too. But I think the part I liked the best was not really that silly- I like "Fortune, Empress of the World". Before part two of it was over I was actually crying! Like, actual tears down the cheeks crying. I don't think I've ever cried over something like that, for real. Well, I cried watching I Am Sam but I didn't like it that much- I was just PMS-ing. And I cried reading Lord of the Rings (I won't tell you what part though because it's kind of embarassing). Yeah, O Fortuna is so cool.^^ |

One of my friends gave me Dvorak's "New World Symphony". It is completely aweseome!!
As a bonus, some of my Czech friend's taught me how to pronounce Anton*n Dvořák. The "ř" is a trilled "r" and a j nearly on top of each other. The letter's with accents are long vowels, and stressed. Ř hurts my brain. But I love Dvorak! "New World Symphony" rules so much. I wouldn't say one part really stands out, yet anyway. It's highly pleasant and relaxing music. The only time so far that I've listened to it in its entirety is while reading a really horribly boring academic article. It helped me not spaz. *symphony love* What Bach pieces are you playing Katya? I found Bach is fun but very hard to play. All my mistakes on his pieces jump wildly out of the piano, straight to the listener's ears. This applies to his guitar (possibly arranged, but still very Bach) music too. I love Carmina Burana, but I don't know any of the lyrics.

I'm playing whatever I have in my Notebook for Anna Magdalena and this other thing that I can't remember what it's called. And you're right, it's kinda hard. Well, the book I have now is pretty easy but kind of hard at the same time.
When I went to see Carmina Burana they passed out the lyrics with translations. If you can't find them on the internet somewhere I can maybe type some of them out or tell you kinda what they're about, if you like. You know, most of the words to the One Winged Angel theme from Final Fantasy VII are somewhere in Carmina Burana. "Estuans interius ira vehementi", "veni veni venias ne me mori facias" and "sors immanis et inanis" are all in there. |

No worries, I'm sure I'll be able to find them on the internet. Carmina Burana (I forget which piece... um... the exciting one) is also the theme from Excalibur.
