Nope. I am not aware of that one being given that title even once. Still, it is a good opening guess. This one will soon be solved, I expect.

Thanks for trying, and please try again if you will.

Know this. I am very proud of you, daughter. Very.

Also, your skills are your own, and they are increasing every day.

I remember one Numenorean King whose Quenya and Adunaic titles, both, literally meant 'Lord of the West'. Can't recollect either of his names though.

I reckon that's close enough. This was the first Numenorian King to only take his name in the Anunaic, rejecting both Quenya and tradition.

The Adunaic form translates to Lord of the West, and was considered by many to be an ill-omen as that title was usually reserved for Manwe. Consequently, when he died the Quenya form of this kings name was entered into the scrolls, as there was fear to completely abandon honoring the Valar.

Does anyone know the names of this king?

Of course! One of my favorite Kings!

Ar-Adûnakhor was his name in Adunaic and Tar-Herunumen in Quenia.

I guess old Manwe was a tad miffed when he took such names.

Yes. Ar-Adunakhor and Tar-Herunumen are the correct names, thank you.

Does it annoy you English speakers that the persons' gender is revealed in the noun? Finland has only a "neutral" noun for persons.

As for the riddle... Elrond? Can't see how that fits the first line, though.

You work with what you have, I reckon. Besides, would you have the riddles even harder? Well, not too much harder as there are very few women in Tolkiens world.

Well, he was for sure one of the Great, but the White part does present a problem, eh?

Thank you for guessing. It is not Elrond. Please try again.

Gandalf! From the White Council to the Great, and he had a long struggle with Sauron (yeah not rule so what), he became the greatest of the Istari, and Saruman, his brother, was lost.

That is an interesting interpretation, NEL. However, it is not Gandalf.

Keep trying!

Well, it did seem appropriate considering that's what I do here.

It was time for a change, I suppose. And what better than my own quote? Thank you, for suggesting it.

Hello there again, TDPR! Welcome back. I wish I could say otherwise, but Olwe is not the correct answer to this riddle.

Keep trying. For now, I think that there are enough clues in the riddle for y'all to figure it out.

Here's a Halloween Riddle for y'all...

The most ancient hallowed ground
in all of Middle Earth be found
where ice cold stones ring you round
Here among the grassy hills
there are no trees or watery rills
where haunted spirits bring you chills...

(since Halloween is almost over here)

The Barrow Downs / Tyrn Gorthad

Ancient burial grounds of first age men who were ancestors of the Edain, now occupied by... *gasp* Barrow Wights!
